Hill stations around Pune (from Hyderabad) - need advice

Hi,

We are a group of 20 people who are planning a trip to one of the hill-stations around Pune - Mahabaleshwar, Lonavala or Matheran -
We would be starting from Hyderabad, and reaching Pune by train - We plan for a stay of 3 days in any of the hill stations mentioned above -

Can anybody suggest the best way to explore one of these hill stations from Pune ? Hire a bus in advance ? or just use the Maharashtra State Transport buses to get there -

It would be great if someone could suggest an itinerary spanning 3 days in any of these spots -

Regards,
YMR

There is a main train route from Pune to Lonavala (and onward to Mumbaii) and the sites are good although quite expensive now. Try the chickie snack..

for mahabaleshwar, volvo buses are available. the return bus is in the evening..
the only way to include all three locations wud be to go to mahabaleshwar and then return back. do lonavala, then matheran and back to pune

otherwise, pune- mahabaleshwar. then on to mumbai side from mahabaleshwar. visit matheran, then lonavala and back to pune

Thumbs up Matheran Hill Station

I spent a week at Lord's in Matheran. It was the absolute best. Check them out on line. If you have the Lonely Planet Guide , you will find all the information there on how to get to Matheran. If you don't have one, i am sure someone around can lend you one for a minute. Enjoy. I thoroughly recommend it.
