Headin' to Pune
I just found out that I'll be going to Pune in about 2 weeks. I'll be spending about 6 weeks there. I have read some of the forums here this afternoon to try to learn a little bit. I have a flight booked into Mumbai, but I haven't figured out how I'm getting to Pune yet.
How would people recommend going? Plane? Is it too late to book a train to Pune from Mumbai? I'm arriving at about noon, so I would have to catch a train later in the afternoon. I have housing for most of the time that I'm going to be there, but I'm looking for a nice place to stay when my wife comes to visit me for about 9 days. I apologize if all of this information has been covered elsewhere. I just found out I was going and just found this forum. I've been scurrying to try to find out as much info as I can in a short amount of time. Thank you for all your help. |

By air is better than spending a day in train. It will cost anywhere near 3000 INR.
You can always book train ticket in A/C section. Try to check this ONLINE and you will be knowing the present status also.www.indianrail.gov.in/ |

Hi eimeria
One of the better idea will be to go by the Volvo Buses that ply between mumbai & pune all the time. Those buses are with ac and better (if not best) suspensions, it will take roughly 3 hours to complete the journey. The advantage of traveling the bus is the ease of getting a seat and its damn cheap. So if you can make yourself to Dadar in mumbai, there you will find buses leaving for pune every 10 minutes or so. So chose any of the counters their and bargain hard, the tickets should not be more than Rs 250. Hope this will help Anindya

Are the buses located at the airport or must I travel somewhere else to get them? Taking a plane is an attractive option because of the time savings, but I wouldn't mind saving a couple of dollars.
On another topic ... I'm thinking about bringing my laptop with me. Is WiFi readily available at internet cafe's in Pune? thanks for all the help. |

How much should a cab cost from Mumbai to Pune? A 3 hour ride in a cab here would cost an absolute fortune.

Between Rs. 250/- to 350/- depending on A/C, Non A/C, Maruti or Maruti Zen or something else. The cabs themselves are known as Coolcabs.

The rate I mentioned is if you want to hire for yourself. Or you can take share-a-cab then the cost is much cheaper. Raj |

Hi Eimiria, in Feb I paid 3500 for a car with driver from Mumbai Airport to Poona. Right at the entrance of the airport there are plenty of companies that you can choose your car from (prices/offer are all the same). It's a prepay system so no bargain later necessary. took 3 hours to Poona. About the AC bus from Dadar, which is much cheaper (300 Rs), I think one has to make reservations in advance. And also it's again some distance from the airport to Dadar (maybe 30 minutes). But it's a good option of one is located in Mumbai already. Linn Linn |

Bus to Pune.
There is a confortable AC bus service from Mumbai to Pune it will take about 3 hours and will cost you about 5 to 10 USD.
The best thing is that you can book the tickets online. Here is their website. http://www.rajnationalexpress.in/ |
