Anyone Planning Camping around Pune or Mumbai
Hello Guys,
My Traveling exp. is not much but yes i traveled to some places in Northern India like rishikesh, Badrinath, kedarnath, gangotri, yamunotri, Haridwar, Pantnagar, Almoda then i arrived here in Pune and had a bike ride from Pune to Konkan in Dec. 2007. Lastly i was in Seattle WA and there i got to explore my camping enthusiast in the Mountaineer. Now i am really pissed of from this daily routine of office to room and room to office. I want to enjoy the real camping exp. i heard about the suburbs of Mumbai and some good places on the way from Mumbai to Goa like Ulhas River bank side, Wai and Krishna River and Kundalika. now all i have is a my bullet and my intense desire to take a leave from this concrete jungles. If anyone planning something similar please LMK I would love to join you guys. Thank you.

Finding a group online would be tough, But there are a lot of people to suggest though.
Are you into just plain camping or also have some trekking in mind, if yes. Try to go to a place called Vasota - approx 140 Kms from pune. Its a small mountain trek into the jungle. It has no inhabitaion of mankind. As you need to reach here by a boat. A ferry boat will drop you and will come to pick you when you instruct between sunset and sunrise (the fisher men have their nets at night for fishing and the ferry boats propellers get entangled in this) No weapons allowed , need to carry your camping gear and food/water. You wont find shops here. Need to tell the forest department at the shore before going. How to reach - Pune to Satara Satara to Bamnoli (This is the opposite end from Mahabaleshwar Tapola) Take a boat from Bamnoli to Vasota. I think ferry's run from Tapola lake at Mahabaleshwar too, not sure about it. Share the experience if you ever get a chance to go their with a group. |

Thank you friend.
Trekking then camping! sound good to me. Vasota i am not sure but think i been there once, cause i remember we headed to Satara and from satara we visited a similar place what u telling here. there are two-three big waterfalls too and to reach that place we have to go through all the ghat area but ferry's or boats were not involved we ascended towards the waterfalls on a SUV then stopped approk. 1 km before and from there yes there was a small descending trekking of abt 1 km to reach the waterfalls. LMK if i am at the same if else then i really can consider. |

No that was the thoseghar waterfalls. its has got villages nearby. the place i am suggesting is devoid of habitation. so only trekkers can be found if anyone plans to be at the same time you plan. its a couple of hours climb and then you could camp at the top or come back and camp at the base. |
