Thanks sir. Good inputs. That's an area which we will definitely explore. I know many options are coming there. Not sure if that is the life we are looking at...but worth exploring. Yeah I would like to quickly comment about the other interesting and complex subject that you have raised - about the education of our kids. First of all appreciate your thoughts and concern about them. Great that you saw them as one of the most important factor in the decision. Many would probably not agree but our thoughts are as follows: While we fully acknowledge and appreciate the need & value of education, we do not have similar views about 'competition' per se! We want our kids to be nicely educated but do not believe that boarding schools/competitive schools are best bets. Well, its a very complex subject and I don't think I have liberty to discuss my thoughts on the subject on this forum...it would be like killing fellow posters ! So I will rather keep mum except for saying that we want to keep them away from such environment and keep them simple, loving, and educated - an education which is less corrupted than what it is in Delhi - and which has good involvement from their parents, which unfortunately on date is missing.Anyhow, appreciate and respect your thoughts! |

In that case he can be sure of getting a lot of opportunities to growl at me...unlike his highness' impeccable credentials ...even if one is quite lenient, I am afraid I would be placed in the category of street breeds...and no more!
No offense meant sir... Looking forward to see you folks then...can we get you something from Delhi? |

Livinginhimalayas, which was the place where you stayed in a rented accommodation? Uttarkashi, Joshimath, Srinagar, Tehri, Ramgarh, Pithoragarh, sure have better facilities.

Matli and Garampani - both near Uttarkashi. Facilities and lack or surfeit, are entirely subjective - Water, electrickery and access are the main requirements, especially water as i will keep reiterating as without a guaranteed supply one will spend all one's time filling buckets somewhere, other than that it's about - What you feel you want or need!

Water, is my only requirement. Pipe supply or a spring or water fall. I can do with the others.

Hi Aroon,
Interesting Thread. I am an IT Consultant in New Delhi. I am also in a similar situation. But I've realized that the best solution for me would be to divide my time between the comforts of New Delhi and being close to Nature in the hills. I even tried to make a start by having a Computer Store in Manali. I ran it for 2 years, then realized that it is not easy for anybody from New Delhi to live for long periods in the hills. And then it is very difficult to find local people willing to work, specially in the Manali Area. Land prices have gone up so much and so much easy money is there with the locals. My eventual plan is to Spend the Summers in the Hills, the winters in Goa and the rest of the year in New Delhi. Do update us on your experience with the recce tour to Utranchal. All the best with your dreams. Styler Last edited by Styler : Sep 8th, 2009 at 11:40. |

Styler, Aroon did come up to Uttarkshi but was here for only a few hours and had to leave apparently due to an emergency. He never got back on the forum after that so we do not know what his experience of the brief visit to the hills was.

Look, you must have read my thread in "Buying land for 5 lacs" in which you commented also. I am equally keen to move and I have so far only explored areas around Mukteshwar. I have zeroed down on Sitla which I found to be amazing. I am not as lucky as Aroon, - "financially" as I work in a ad agency in Gurgon and with whatever limited means, I am saving, little by little, to buy a piece of land in the hills coz I can never save enough for anything here. I need your honest advise. Is it ok to buy in Sitla or you suggest Uttarkashi? Afterall you know more than most of us on this forum. Pls email me on sb.bluginger@gmail.com. thankyou in advance. sanjeev |

I don;t suggest any location to anyone. What suits you is fine for you, if you think Sitla it is then it is ok, but the price you quote per nali is way off too expensive. You could get land around in other places for half that amount. If your only criterion for shifting to a place is availability of land and natural beauty, then there are a hundred other places you should look at before buying anything.
As for Uttarkashi, it suits my purpose just fine and that is why I am here, if it suits you too then who am I to discourage you. |

As for now, I have made up mind on Sitla All the reasons for the same, are mentioned in the thread "What can I buy in hills for 5 lakhs" Maybe my next investment can be looked elsewhere. Thanks once again for your inputs. Regards / Sanjeev |
