Registration of a flat as American Citizen ??...

I had bought a under-construction flat as an NRI in Pune which took 2 years to complete. In the meantime, I became an American citizen. Now, I want to go to India to register the flat on my name. Will I have to carry additional papers to register the flat? Is there anything I need to know before I go to India? Thanking you in advance.

Well... a new question!

First, please note that this is not a legal forum, we are not experts or professionals.

As a pio you are, I think, even though non-resident, entitled to buy immovable property.

So I'd guess that what you need is anything that proves that you were once an Indian citizen. Do you still have that pasport you should have surrendered? Did you make a copy of it?

Unless you have a strong foreign accent, is anyone going to single you out and ask?

Just my very-few-paise worth. I really don't know, but couldn't resist having a go --- ultimately your advocate should be able to guide you on this one.

I think all you will need is a PAN. http://incometaxindia.gov.in/PAN/Overview.asp

You can apply for it over the internet.
