land buy
Hey,
I'll be moving to India after a long time. I've been living in the USA for some time now but am still an Indian Citizen. Once I go back I'll be buying some government land. But i've heard ownership means 99 years. IS that true ? What happens after that? Will my son have to buy the land again after 99 years is complete ?

Hello Jinnyjane, welcome to IndiaMike
There is certainly such a thing as freehold (though I'm not sure if that is the word for it), and it is possible to buy land so that you and your heirs will own it for ever.
As to the land you are interested in (you say Government land...), then whether you are buying freehold or leasehold will depend on the deal being offered.
Bear in mind that some states have more restrictive local laws than the national laws on land ownership, and that there are regulations affecting who can buy agricultural land that do not apply to residential land.
Be careful to research fully --- and to employ a good advocate that you can trust.
Real Estate business ('immovable property') in India is fraught with pitfalls and scams: beware! And good luck!
