I've noted before and on this same thread: As an impassionate and uninformed reader, that GoanVoice seems to be some Goan-British (or Britto-Goan?) outlet sponsored by commercial ads by agents and brokers and the likes telling their readers to invest in and buy property in Goa no problem & no questions asked.

And so the wheel goes round I guess, but hadn't we all concluded by now this lies at the heart of the problem?

The point I was trying to make is that slowly it is dawning on people that it is not the retirees that are a problem but the builders of these mega projects from outside whether it be other states or foreigners sheltering behind sham companies. Remember, these "businesses" need godfathers to be able to operate. If they don't co-operate after becoming involved, then they are in big trouble. Can they get away with sheltering the big deals while confiscating other properties? We shall see.........

Yes, and I appreciated your earlier OHeraldo (or is that just The Herald? Isn't that just its Portuguese name? --> Checked: It is, of course) report.

However that article seems, no matter how well-meant and even progressively-influenced it may be, to be shifting the attention from just finally enforcing existing jurisdiction for all (as has been amply noted on this thread alone I believe) to the attempt to distinguish between who (and note that "who" here is typically a foreigner, or outsider) is kosher, and who isn't.

Now that is historically treading on thin ice... And aside from my own European context, in an Indian context I don't think this even needs any explanation.

(Need I say it? As in: Let's weed out the mafia from the legit pensioners, and the druggies from the alcos, and the out-of-staters from the not so [which, of course, is already happening], and... I can hear the boots marching in & the shop windows breaking right now.)

Every Sunday now, there are panchayat meetings that are well attended and gram sabhas where ordinary folk are up in arms about the changing face of their villages. The "common man", as they like to be called, carry a lot of weight here. They have to be listened to in order to avoid trouble on the streets. (Cough) Who do you mean, you and I? On rereading I was afraid you might think I was calling you a proto-fascist, which of course was furthest from my mind.

Kidding aside though, they seem to me (and obviously not just me) to be serious issues (and I don't even know Goa! How's that!)

And mob or communal or xenophobic or any sort of violence is no laughing matter, no sir, as I'm quite sure we'll agree. And as I'm sure quite a few here can attest.

(But what we supposedly more "decent" people can do in the meantime is think through the underlying issues & mechanisms of course. Or, er, hopefully again. Time will tell, and all that.)

sorry, I can't let that pass without comment; the advocates I have spoken to told me what the law is, that is not cheating, it is not their fault if the Goa government are acting unlawfully.

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere (my lunch hour's over and I've only just remembered!).

Heard this article last night on Radio 4's "Trouble in Paradise". Nothing new, but the confirming sympathy on people who've bought in good faith but apparently have "asked the wrong people"...so it's their fault.

To be honest, I have an unfair advantage in that I'm married to one of the natives, so will never have to worry about it, but I do feel for these folks:
