Foreign owned property in Goa, (Part One)
I've no time to search the web, but I read a story in today’s paper about foreign owned property in Goa.
There are strict rules attached to purchasing 'immovable' property in Goa, it seems that an affidavit saying that all the rules have been adhered to was enough in the past.
The newspaper article (in the Asian Age) suggests that all property purchased in the last few years was going to be checked to make sure the rules WERE adhered to, any failure could result in the property being confiscated.
MOD NOTE: For the exciting continuing follow-up to this saga, see also Foreign owned property in Goa, (part Two)

Nothing has actually changed. It's just that now you'll have to make sure your documentation etc is correct, as it will be checked on. (another moneymaker)
People "buying" on Tourist Visas will still not be able to register with the RBI.

the rules may not have changed. What has changed is that spme political body has made a request that the govt l start enforcing the rules. At least, thats all I could find. http://www.navhindtimes.com/stories....Story_ID=05142

A number of people have posted on IM about doing this (both inquiring if it was allowed and stating that they'd already done it), and several -- I'm thinking of one in particular
-- got quite hot under the collar when told that foreigner's holding tourist visas, even 10 year tourist visas available to U.S. citizens, couldn't do this. Hope they are following these news accounts and taking steps to get their situations straightened out - altough their prospects of recovering any money from an unscrupulous seller or middleman for engaging in an illegal sale seem dim.
