Who can tell what will be available in 15 years?

One assumes that, assuming one remains qualified, then it is renewable.

Please check out http://mha.gov.in/crystal_ball.htm

Seriously: http://mha.gov.in/fore_division.htm will be a useful site to look at

Seeing as how you liked it so much, have this one too.

There: you are now fully equipped with the two sites I use as my major sources on India visa/immigration/citizenship information!

The only missing link is the site for your own country's Indian Embassy or High Commission --- there are visa variations depending on country. I'll leave you to find that link for yourself

Glad to have made you more Happy

One more idea to get a PIO card sooner to be able to buy property:

Why dont you get a registered marriage now, instead of next year, so the one year of marriage before you can apply for a PIO card starts counting. I considered to do that with my Indian boyfriend, but then decided to have the whole wedding this february. But for your purposes that might be an option.

hello, I agree with anders, never spend any money which you cant walk away from in india. let me tell you a little story, I bought my house in kovalam in 2004 all stamped and looking very pretty only paid peanuts for the house (about £6k) and land and have spent probably another £6k over the years and am very happy with it. 2 years ago, i swopped a strip of land with my neighbour and during this time we both tried to sort out the legalities with a lawyer (who wanted to charge the earth and was absolutely rubbish, more of this later) but the lawyer was dragging his feet. finally got the paperwork sorted in march this year and off my kashmiri neighbour and i went to the registration office in trv to register the land, the head officer refused point blank to do this stating that it is now illegal for any foreigner to own land in kerala since jan 2007. he confirmed that my land was ok in my name but sent us back to the lawyer. lawyer basically didnt know his arse from his elbow and as i have conveyancing experience managed to tie this guy up in knots, get my money back (eh!!!) and we did a deed of exchange which is all we could hope for in the end. so the moral of this is why put your money in your husbands name on land and property so soon? yes, love is wonderful but the term 'buyer beware' springs to mind. am sorry if i sound cynical but keep your dosh for the time being, time will tell, my mate has been married to a keralan for 3.5 years and he walked out last month saying he wanted kids (he knew when he married her she couldnt) but he admited this week, it was all for a visa to stay in the uk. please keep your eyes open and be careful.
