Thumbs up Lashkar-e-Tayiba

No wonder, that Lashkar-e-Tayiba is a promising option in this poll.

Just look at the organizational structure and strong HRD management / policies :

a few months ago i had a dream that kashmir was absorbed into islamabad, taking on the name and all, so i voted for pakistan. certainly, all of the kashmiris that i polled on the issue said that they preferred pakistan to india (because they're muslim), but their optimal choice is of course, independence from either country.

may they know peace.

I don't see either country backing down. I voted for no change. But I think there is good chance of LOC becoming the international border.

I am surprised to see so many people voting for "India (with no objections from Pakistan)" option. This is just wishful thinking.

Great reviving this thread. Who knows if Pakistan will exist in 30 years? Whatever non-Indian political entity that claims Kashmir in 30 years might not look the same as it does now. Pakistan has already cleaved once (Bangladesh). The Kashmir question could easily dissolve into the bigger problem of what to do with a fractured group of semi-autonomous tribal regions.

As Merchant said, great to talk again about Kashmir. In my opinion in a decade Ksshmir will remain like today but poorer. Thirty years is too long for me I'm probably too old to even think for so long.

Unfortunatelly today again three civilians killed in Sinagar, last week another incident in the city with four killed and 20 others wounded. I was thinking to visit next April Kashmir (only five or six days in a houseboat in Srinagar) but I really think is a nonsense to travel there if you cannot stay in the old cuty with the people, in the bazaars etc., it's really a pity.

yes, i read about the bombings that just occured in srinigar. so many happened during the month i was there this year, including the bombing of the tourist center.

i think that the sense of futility and hopelessness that kashmiris feel has either spun them into apathy or venomous hatred, both of which are deadly.

Last month I've read a very good book with the action located in Srinagar, in lake nagin and in the city.I strongly reccommend the reading as the action is in 1990 during the hardest days of the country.

an older post but the topic is very relevant. and now especially with alqaeda setting up a branch office (will they have a receptionist and water cooler?) ..from the announcement yesterday.

very good points merchant. i doubt the neighbouring entity is going to survive thirty years.

good it was a dream. most of the indians would call that a nightmare. aint going to happen. pakistan is a failed state period. india has more muslims than pakistan that live in complete harmony in most of the places. i dont blame some of the kashmiris thinking that way especially given the indian military violations, curfews and what not..but their chance of success is better with the indian setup and economics than being with the neighbour..lets not also forget the status of kashmiri pandits who have had a miserable existence. the indian govt must do more to improve the economic and political climate but our govt is so slow..with coalitions and what not.

you are entitled to your opinion ofcourse.

if kashmir is given independence, be prepared for tamil nadu and punjab to follow and so many others behind them. it will result in the splintering of india. india will NEVER NEVER give independence to kashmir right or wrong, thats signing a death wish for the union~

Exactly!! An independant state is out of question since technically speaking, Kashmir is a poor state and the Indian Government has been supporting its every cause. I don't think the Pakistan Government will be able to do justice to Kashmir and its people.

Ofcourse being an Indian myself, I want Kashmir to stay in India. But no one can really predict what will happen in 30 years.

Fact of the matter is I don’t see India backing down; already people look at politicians with contempt. If the politicians were to even bring a slightest notion that India should give up Kashmir, then they will not only face the wrath of people they might for the first time since the independence, face the wrath of armed forces as well.

Like Greenchutney has said, if India gives up Kashmir, then there will chaos every where and anti unity and anti India sentiment would be on the rise.

If today Kashmir is given independence or autonomy then there will once again be an upsurge in demand for Khalistan. Not to forget more problems in North East.

Backing down once means the India is ready to back down if the violence is thrust upon her, this is some thing that should not happen and will no happen till Indian like me are alive.

The question should also be if Kashmiris gain independence then what will they gain from it? I mean as a citizen of India they are already enjoying as much rights in fact most probably more rights then they would once they gain independence.

If Kashmir becomes independent today, then it will be plunged into a civil war. With the militants organizations fighting amongst themselves for the control of Kashmir and lets get one thing straight, there is no way Pakistani Military would want Kashmir issue to be resolved. Due to Kashmir they enjoy the sweeping powers they have and what’s to stop Pakistan from trying to control Kashmir?

Do you people really think Pakistan is doing all this to see Kashmir as an independent state?

Other. India and Pakistan both want to join the SCO. In less than 30 years, if the SCO insists, there will be a solution. If China were to hint at extending the Lhasa railroad through (!) J/K to Kashgar (ridiculously expensive, but who cares in politics?), India and Pakistan would be very busy to find an agreement on borders. The "final solution" might be a semi-independent J/K, firmly watched by a special SCO commission.
