Maybe in 30 years the PTB of India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan will see the economic and social wisdom of re-uniting the countries into one terrifically strong and prosperous country.

I clicked 'No change'.... I can't see either party backing down and there are also the fanatics on both sides.... I can't see peace talks resolving much - look at the Israel-Palestine flare up again just days after talks. An independent Kashmir would seem like an ideal compromise perhaps encompassing the Northern Areas of Pakistan (which aren't, of course, officially part of Pakistan anyway), i.e. both India and Pakistan giving something away....but that's not going to happen either. And I don't think the area would have the economic ability to function as an independent country without a lot of help from the rest of the world.

Interesting to see that "India (with no objections from Pakistan)" is running second to "No Change".... personally, I really can't see this happening - there would definitely be objections, I think.

Even I clicked at no change. I believe it's not going to change, not during my lifetime.
No wonder 'India with no onjections from Pakistan' is running second .. we have many Indians as members |

We live in hope...
I have a feeling the Israel/Palestine situation could be resolved in the next 10 years, I think however, the terrorists who claim to be Muslims will then turn their attention to Kashmir.
India will go to war if it has to and the world knows it, this will force most world leaders to do everything in their power to resolve the situation, I'm not sure an independent Kashmir would mean an end to the problems but it would look like an attractive solution, maybe it could work. Just off to teach my pig to fly... ![]() |

I am also one of the pessimists who voted no change. This has been a long running dispute with no real signs of a solution in sight. The people of Kashmir have suffered in this confrontation between India and Pakistan for too long - many Kashmiris have died and many have had to leave their place of birth and build a new life elsewhere.
Vast amounts of money have been spent in maintaining armies in the area. This is money that could have been better spent in improving the infrastructure of both India and Pakistan. The responsibility lies with those in power on both sides to come to an agreement which guarantees the people of Kashmir a peaceful future. Easier said than done, I know, but the citizens of both countries should bring pressure on their leaders to finally sort this situation out. Now in my 63rd year I don't think I will live to see it but I hope I'm wrong. |

I've never been a gambler archits otherwise I would take you on!
I hope you are right on this but I don't see any real signs. Both sides are still playing the political game for their own political ends. The damage to my ego if I'm wrong will be of little consequence compared to the benefits for the people of Kashmir and the Indian sub-continent if you are right. Hopefully, I'll talk with you again about this in a years time. |

You have half convinced me that better times may lie ahead for Kashmir. The American change in attitude towards both India and Pakistan is going to be a major factor in achieving a peaceful solution. Perhaps the fanatics who murder young women for wearing the wrong clothes could be encouraged to open up carpet or handicraft shops? Now that would be a happy ending! |

I voted No change. Pak Kashmir with pakistan and Indan Kashmir with India. But this will became a bit meaning less if people are allowed to travel freely between the two Kashmirs. It will became less important an issue as long as people are able to rule themselve thru democraticaly elected reps and able to move freely. The recent agreement on travel (Indians and pakistanies visiting each others regions) without visa or passport is HUGE move by both Pakistan & India.

Oh, now I've seen the results !!! An independ kashmir is the last thing (both India & Pakistan will allow). Independent from whome? People talked of the same kinds of things about (Indian)Punjab a couple of decades back. Now terrorism or Khalistan is the last thing people feel when they meet a Sikh
