they move around
I think there is a big freak comunity moving around india. You can found them going around Hampi or Pushkar on winter, or playing shaddu on summer in Manali or another place in the Himalayas. While travelling around india i've found such a weird people in one place and after some month i've seen them again in another of this "freak centers" but after all i think you can always found lot of them around goa.

hi jivan,
iI cant recommened the anamans highly enough what a beautiful place.. the boat was an old tub but it got us there, take lots of oranges with you to keep the scurvy at bay !! knowone bothered staying in the bunks supplied for fear of bieng massacred by cockroaches, so we all set our hammocks up at the back of the boat and the party began apart from the evening break to let the muslims gather and pray 2 the east.......on arriving in port blair we made straight for neal island on a ferry, and head 4 the beach about 2 miles walk from the village unless you can persuade a local to lend you his bike.. which is what i did on a few occasions...during the odd shoppin trip, what can i say paradise, sleeoing in a hammock and eating fresh tuna from the local fishermen. so get your ass over there i defy anyone not to fall in love with the place! oh yea i met a local guy there and his name was coco numnuts!!! ( i kid you not !! ) have fun and look after the beach jerry |

I love Dharamsala and Himachal Pradesh. But unfortunately the popularity of this state attracts also freaks sometimes with tragic ends as again today's news revealed:
http://www.newindpress.com/NewsItems...ion&Topic =0& I hope this case was not related to warning in LP 2003 about some attacks on lone women in Dharamsala neighbourhood. As I remember chief minister of HM Mr Virbhadra Singh got angry on this after receiving complains from local hoteliers and threatened to take action against Lonely Planet in court. |

A bit unfair including all of Goa in one choice. And where's Agra with all those the weirdos paying 50 bucks to watch the "mongoose and snake" show?

I love it, the Freak Nation. Gotta be the next Indian subculture/caste I document.

I certainly hope LP did not back down in the face of such intimidation. All they did was print a warning sidebar saying "women should not hike around the area alone after dark," hardly a blanket condemnation. |
