must get to work...
Hard choices, so I went about it very seriously...
Wrong brand of chocolate bar. Reject. Western breakfast great, but only after a month in India. Grudgingly reject. Haircut great, but in Turkey, not India. Reject. Hands hennaed. Tempting, since I am a square about very few things and that is one of them, God knows why. Reject. A night with... not included. Ears cleaned. I loved it when I was little and a wax-producing machine. I wonder what it says about me... Reject.Beer etc....hmm...lemme think...wait, I indulge every day already. Re...hic...ject. So I picked massage. But even there, I dream of those brutal ladies in Khon Kaen... I'm exhausted. I feel I just indulged in every one of the choices even some not listed |

![]() ...versus my usual dream, something is being poked in my ear, now I can't quite hear anything, ow it hurts, can't remember authorizing the ear cleaning man to go ahead, what did he say again? Dream turns into nightmare, wake up in cheap hotel room. Okay back on topic: my indulgance would be with horoscopes, I've always wanted to watch my future unfold by getting my Nari (sp?) Leaf read. I've met some Indians who said their readings were simply uncanny. Has anyone done it? |

Unfortunately, the structure of the poll itself didn't allow me to specify both types of services offered by the local barber... Shave & Haircut AND massage, since the two go together in India. What good is a haircut without a good pumelling about the head and shoulders to follow it?

I smile when I think of my first head massage , but that's not the kind of massage I was thinking of, also, the barber wasn't who I had in mind to do the massage.

I want an airconditioned hotel room with ensuite in a top heritage hotel, which also has a pristine inground swimming pool. Plus massage, hennaed hands, western breakfast, the chocolate bar and lots lots more. A nice cocktail before dinner on the terrace, an Indian dinner with dancers and musicians included. Great sightseeing during the day, and more more more.
I better save up for one night in a ex-maharajah's palace... |

after all is said and done, for me, nuthin says relaxation like reading 'round the pool, drinking numbu sodas, and perhaps splurging on their waaaaaaay too expensive buffet

Landing there, off the plane - into the heat and the smell of fruit and spice, with just a hint of dead chicken!! I love so many things that follow - but nothing beats the absolute endulgence of going.
uhmmm.. maybe swimming at night in the rain - yep that's my one after landing.

Ah yes, the pleasure of arriving in India! Nothing beats it.
Each time I arrive at Chennai airport (usually just after midnight), I just love the moment of walking through the sliding doors, feeling the evening hot air slide over me as I leave the A/C airport hall...looking at a chaos of people waving signs, and what not...the smell of India in the air. And for me of course the moment I spot my brother in the crowd ready to pick me up for a 'quiet' ride down the ECR to Auroville. Oh and that's my next moment of fun: sitting in the car / taxi at night, looking at the landscape, the shops and stalls and cows and chickens and herds...stopping on the way for my first chai in a few months (and if I am hungry stop by the Highway Inn for my first dosai!)! And eventually arriving in the green oasis of Auroville... It's those first few hours of my arrival I enjoy so much...It's the feeling of finally being back in India! It's coming home! Anyways, this is off-topic ![]() I would say my favourite indulgence is a shave at the barber! Because I hate the daily routine of shaving...and they give such nice clean shaves! So soft! ![]() |
