| There's Waffle in em! | What I'd like to know is what the 11 votes for "other" are referring to. If you put "other" it'd be great to hear what you were thinking ![]() |

| The festivals bit would be good, though the dates could never be pinned down. India never runs out of festivals--many of them are bizarre. |

![]() Just as an individual, rather than a forum leader, however. Seems to me the 'topics' would be better served as 'lists'. ( I think someone has already posted a comprehensive list of festivals, but darned if I can remember where) | |

| My favorite bizarre festival is Jallikattu--a Tamil running of the bulls/rodeo that critically injures several hundred people and kills a few every year. I have some pictures of it: http://www.prestonmerchant.com/gallery.html (click on Jallikattu on the left) Edsita was there for it this past year--and left Alanganallur right before a grandstand collapsed injuring some 200 people. Jallikattu is quite old, mentioned in the Sangam poetry. |

| Senior Member | Thanks Vinay! Pls do it for all of us. It would be great if other Indiamikers, living in different cities/ regoins of India, post cultural events/ dates of local fairs and festivals on the site. |

| I support Avidtrekker who wants a Trekking/Hiking section... there's much recent info to be shared among us that beats whatever the guidebooks write.

| -m2- I've just voted other cos there was no item about cyber cafe's seems we all depend on them as much as food ;-) We've all wasted a lot of time and patience in crap net cafe's and could easily between us gather a pretty usefull list of the good ones we've found. Speed cost smoking / not refreshments other services/features (eg USB ports, printing, consumable sales etc...) 'hangoutability' I'd also vote for something on trekking, open ended one that. (then there's been talk about other countries outside/around India) -L |

| travel perks I'd love to see what people have found is best to buy where, ie things that you can't get anywhere else at all or can't get for a better price :-) Two such things I've discovered in China are the variety of themos mugs with lids and loose tea filters, great for any kind of infusion on the go; and their new multi-format plug strips that take almost every global plug, so no need for adapters! In India; Silk in Varanasi, but raw silk somewhere else, ( where is it? -a shopkeeper mentioned it but I didn't write it down) Tea from Darjeeeling or Assam in Nepal there are things difficult to find in India;- Western toiletries Peanut butter without additives ( and other wholefood stuffs) Jam without additives (for those of us averse to dayglo dyed jam!) Chinese Silks and other products (India won't import from china) Tibetan carpets and crafts. western herbs and spices |
