Agree fully. For short day journeys, AC Chair Car is most comfortable and very economical too.

Ah! Thanks. Must have overlooked that (or it's been added later on?)

My two cents:
I like Sleeper class if the weather is cool. The price is right and the other passengers are great! Last year (2004) the weather was 42 degrees celcius from the end of FEB onwards and sleeper class was too hot even at night time.

However, if you are travelling overnite, 3 tier AC is definitely quieter (the windows are always shut) so you don't hear the station noise and announcements. I get a much better sleep even tho' it can be cold with the A/C. Three Tier A/C is cleaner too as no dust (read Radjastan) or soot can blow on you from windows that won't close all the way when you are sleeping. The other passengers are maybe a little more standoffish in this class but even that is marginal and not always true.

I go for 2AC for a long, hot journey and Sleeper Class (Non AC 3 Tier) for pretty much everything else.

The best place to sleep for a 2m tall guy like me is upper berth sleeperclass!!!
When taking lower or middle berth I can't sleep because of all the people who bump to your legs; even in a relatively quiet class like ac 2 tier sleeper.
I traveled in may and june, but it was never too hot.
btw. if you going to jaisalmer or another deserttown, make sure you either get ac class or the upperberth in sleeper class, because of all the sand.
disadvantage of the upper berths are that they are often filthy, but some water are toiletpaper will do the job.

for me sleeper 3 tier is best but if travelling with kids and wife , can't take risk, so ac 3 tier preferred if nt able to get ac chair chair

3A is the best in my opinion because it is economic,in respct to comfort, toilets are tried to be cleaned, water is available and the blankets.

I like sleeper (3 tier non-AC), particularly if I can nab the top bunk
It's not as cold (and even when it's quite hot the open windows cool you down well), it's comfy and it's cheap! I can always get a pretty good night's sleep, and it's often as cheap as my hotel would have been anyway.

I've travelled in everything but 1AC and Executive Chair classes, and it's definitely my favourite. Being so cheap it means I can travel a fair bit further than I could usually afford
