marriage/live-in
in india people marry in their twenties mostly. 30 is considered quite old to marry for a male, certainly for a female. i know its different in western countries. i want to know where our members stand. please answer the poll question.

In Central Europe almost nobody gets married before she/he hasn't lived with the partner for sometime, minimum some months, but mostly some years.
A lot of people get married when they get their first child, after they've built a house together... or simply not at all, as "getting a paper" doesn't make a difference for them. I don't have children, and never finished my own house, papers were not important for me, so never got married ![]() |

Don't know what the statistics say, but here in suburban Kingston, UK, in the street where I've lived for over 10 years, there's a pattern:
- young couple get together, move into a flat together, and save up - they decide to go for it, and buy a house together on my street - they do the house up - they get pregnant (planned) - they get married - they have the baby - they move to Devon/Wales/Northern Ireland/Yorkshire (ie, away from suburbia - often nearer to other family members) - the next young couple move in, do the house up, etc etc |

My girlfriend and I live together for half of the year when she is in Delhi! No to mention, its a nightmare to find a house in south delhi where an average Indian guy can live with his white girlfriend without paying astronomical money!

Am constantly suprised the average age of marriage in India - very young! At 20 I was too caught up myself with getting my career established and travelling (and knowing) the world.
Do these young couples go into marriage understanding what they are looking for and responsibility? I would really like to know what the divorce rates are in India, though probably hard to get stats given I understand that sometimes divorce is frowned upon and couples stay in unhappy marriages. And how are couples viewed if they aren't married but move in together - de facto relationships? Do married couples still have a tendency to live with in-laws or is this slowing changing? I guess as more women in India get into professions and careers, etc the average age of marriage/live in would increase (?) |
