I am a teacher of the very Rgveda that you have quoted. I teach the actual traditional style of chanting. I teach the meanings also. I have also cut my own CD which students use to practise at home. Eighty per cent of the meanings given by the Western scholars are wrong. They are wrong because they had no idea about the Vedic way of life. No background whatsoever. You are faithfully mouthing their writings.

I also disagree with our own great scholar saayaNaachaarya's meanings who is biased towards karmakaaNDa only. (this can be considered sacrilege in India, BTW... so I am not just blindly being "anti-western")

You are merely stating the 1923 Westerner View. Just ten years ago I would have called you some adjectives. Today I know it is not true, so I will point out to you the advances in the debate, which is now closed for the majority of scholars.

The Rgveda is NOT arranged chronologically. NOT at all. The famous Purusha suuktam X 90 was revealed to the Rishi when the population of our Planet was merely a few thousand human beings. It predates most other suuktas alongwith the naasadaasiit suukta. I know you will say the tenth maNDala is a collection of assorted suuktas. Even otherwise the Rgveda is not arranged chronologically. Are you aware that the Baashkala shaakhaa of the Rgveda has the same mantras arranged VERY differently??. Are you aware that the Rgveda has 21 shaakhaas out of which ONLY the shaakala is alive? (texts available for three more shaakhaas, but no chanters)And all these commentaries are based on one-twentieth of the material?

I don't blame you. At least follow your own ancestor's tradition and read up our own puraaNas and shaastras.

The Rgveda was never written till some 2000 years ago. 5000 years ago, Veda Vyaasa had to learn and collect the different suuktas from different schools of different Rishis and made then into four compilations. Before this it was all one big mass of audio known as the Veda. (yes, audio, NOT text)

All the Western Analyses about Rgvedic chronology are based on the flawed premise that "it is a text". Yes, it LOOKS like a text today, but it was a collection of "songs" originally.

Even while Veda Vyaasa was busy collecting them, his teachers told him they were "thousands of years old" or "anaadi" (without beginning). When the compiler himself had no way of knowing the songs' chronology, HOW could he have arranged them chronologically?? Even today, can you arrange the posts on IndiaMike chronologically if I were to remove all references to the date (and jumble up the whole thing and hand out parcels to some 200 people)?? Can you restore IndiaMike to its original chronological order?

I will not continue this debate here because its the wrong website and this is totally oftopic.

As far as Rigveda is concerned,I've not read the originall text,& I don't like to argue without Facts, but one who puts Question mark on something must provide with answer. I'll appreciate if you can provide with Alternate theory,plz do post it on this medium.
