Don't come to India if you are looking for a fling. Heck, don't come to India is you are looking to even talk to the opposite sex (well for men anyways). I am sure this is obvious to most who have been to India. I have spent the past 9 months in India and have had about 5 converstions with younger dating age Indian women. It is such a social taboo for Indian women to even give the slightest indication they are interested. Or that is the way it seems to me. Not that I was looking for it, but after 9 months, it is something that I would have welcomed. I find Indian women to be some of the most prude I have ever met. I don't neccesarily mean that in a bad or derogatory way, I just find it to be true. There are tons of amazingly beautiful woman that seem totally unapproachable. Oh well, out of here in 25 days anyway. That is my take on it.

The problem you are encountering may have a lot to do with who you are and where you are. What do you have to offer one of these lovely Indian gals? How bold are you? How persuasive and persistent? Do you have more than a couple of days to offer them?

I would think cities like Mumbai are the best place to encounter 'free spirits'. And, then again, there are always guys, no?

Decent Indian girls are brought up to look for committment. I've heard this statement more than once: "(Most traditional) Indian women make the best wives in the world".

Most travellers appear to look for a quick fix liaison.

Though the title could have been a bit more appropriate...
(Yeah, yeah... Call me a prude, but then...!)

My point being that maybe the connotation the 'sex' word gives made sure that there weren't as many replies to this thread that it most certainly deserved...

Liasions are on every travellers' mind - the multi-billion dollar cruise industry basically thrives on it...!!!

Coming back to India - here, even the concept of "Travel Mates" is kinda alien to most people... "Travel Mates" of opposite sex could basically travel together just because they are good friends and like each others' company and also to save costs...

But, tell a friend you were travelling with a travel mate of the opposite sex, and the furtive 'know-it-all' kinda look that the person gives you tells you that (s)he believes that a romp in the bed is all that you had in mind while you were travelling together...!

Many of the other words for sex are much less polite!

I think it is clear that this thread is not about meeting people and chatting.

It seems to me that there is plenty of opportunity (although one can never tell when one never attempted to follow it up) but one ough to be prepared to marry the lady!

Otherwise, it depends who you mix with and where.
