Very unusual statue, looks like bronze. I'll stick in the same area and say Chamba or Brahmaur. The statue has been dressed so has it been taken out of the temple for a special festival?

Well done, Mr Smartypants... Chamba it is. It was at the time of the Minjar Mela so I guess it could have been taken out of a temple. I love the exaggerated hook nose on it. Right then, I'm off to bed but I'll stick another one up for you.... won't answer till the morning though...

Where is this statue?

I'm not even going to try guessing where this one is! I recognise the style - I would say late 20thC or early 21stC and it could be anywhere in India.

Anyway I have been monopolising this thread too much in recent times.

Someone else have a go!

Yes... I would say late 20th century and it could be anywhere in India... but it is a place a lot of people visit so have a guess.

Haridwar or Rishikesh? Up there...?

See... too easy - it is, indeed, Rishikesh - in the garden of one of the ashrams. Well done.

Anyone else got one to post?

I think I recognise this one.

Is it on highway 17 as you enter Goa from the south?

nope, actually these signs were all over Goa a few years ago -- this one is now half rotted away.

OT, I know, but going out to the island of Tioman on Malaysia's west coast the sign is rather less subtle. There's a knotted noose hanging over the sign, "stay away from drugs - they carry the death penalty" as you board your launch in Mersing,

yes, they are rather heavy-handed about drug issues in Malaysia and Singapore. These Goan signs with their Nancy Reaganish slogan are just a little ironic coming from the Goa police -- they could have a subtitle like 'or have your backshees ready unless you are prepared to spend the next few months in a nightmare courtroom drama and possibly wind up in Fort Aguada prison for a long time'

This particular sign greets visitors to Arambol -- first glimpse of the beach seen from here, but difficult to notice in this picture.

Someone have another pic?
