"The way the statue is made" makes it sound like something other than carving. Kumartuli leaps to mind, which suggests the statue might be in Kolkata. But that seems much too refined for Kumartuli work, almost as if it were cast in plaster of Paris.

Looks as if the base is another species of beast, with a tile that looks almost Persian. The statue may have been made to fit this pre-existing base.

But what's with the cast-iron fence in the background? And the shutters? And the pink?

The statue is made of terracotta, and is (was) indeed in Calcutta - has no doubt been replaced since I saw it.
The plinth is quite elaborate, and the pink wall is another key to the exact location.
I have no doubt that you will home in on it rather quickly.

Leaning presently toward Tagore House.

You want to go a bit farther north. The sepoy statue was actually at the Parasnath Temple. Why, I do not know, although the Jains do have a proud military heritage.

Haven't been there either. Did scroll through images of it, attracted by the color. But didn't come upon anything that looked like the background in your photo, so settled on Tagore.
