It's better to spend a bit of money and get a reasonably heavy and sturdy tripod. I bought my first one for 800rp (10GBP) in the UK it was fine with light DSLRs, short lenses, in perfect weather and normal shooting.
But long exposures, a D300, 500mm lens and a bit of wind soon showed up it's shortfalls.
I now own a Manfrotto Tripod which is good for all of the variables above, with a attached Manfrotto ball grip head.
The head is also important make sure you get one that can lock your precious camera securely and with a decent metal baseplate.
So a bit of weight (you have to balance this with carrying it around) good extension (height can be great when you need to shoot over a crowd or wall) sturdy and a good head that secures firmly and equally sturdy base plate which attaches the whole thing to the camera.

Agreeing with Klompen, buy the sturdiest one you can afford. And, what type of camera are you putting onto it? DSLR? . . . video?

A purchase of tripod always depends upon what is to be used on it (this includes weight of camera), how it is to be used (you will not mount your camera on heavy tripod for travel photography), and budget.
Now-a-days, you may get a multipurpose tripod of light weight but of sturdy make which balances your camera nicely. You may go for it
