It's comparing (excuse the pun) Apples and oranges. I know nothing of the Dell, I've been a MacMan from the beginning, and have owned both laptops (starting with the 145) and desktops. I now own a MacBook Pro and have had no problems with it, or any Mac I've ever owned. I'm a word processor/writer and photographer/filmmaker and the Mac has covered me on all those bases.

Dell... don't get me started.

I'm aware this is sort off-topic, but... I know a lot about Dell, and in the worst possible way.

Ha, tell me about Dell... Don't ever buy a Dell in your life except if you intend to buy the guarantee against accidental damage. To make a long story short, I spilled liquid on my Dell's keyboard and got it fixed with Dell telling me (only verbally, through the phone) they'd only charge for the replaced parts. They tried to rip me off with a bill for the cost of replacement of all parts, so I asked for a revision. They said they'd check it out but never answered me and I kept waiting.

So one year later, without any previous attempt of contact from them, I start getting letters from a company which threatens to take me to court if I don't pay them, plus mysterious expenses. The letters would come at the rate of two/three per week, even if I had told this company I was in Brasil and would only come back 20 days later and I'd then settle the issue. I even went to a lawyer to see if there was something that could be done but he called my attention that in the written contract (which was in Dutch, since Belgium has a part of it that speaks Flemish/Dutch) there was nothing written about what I was told on the phone. So I paid 800 euro, the price of a new laptop, for only a new motherboard that was replaced.

And now I keep getting letters from them saying that they haven't been paid and "my delay in paying is unacceptable". Can you believe this?!?!?!?!?

Dell is not the worse computer, works just as well as any other, but you pay more expensive than other brands just to avoid hassle. And this is how Dell handles his individual customers. So again, my Rs 1 worth of advice: do not buy Dell, except if you intend to buy the complete guarantee against accidental damage. Even then, I'm not sure of what kind of service you'll get from them.

I haven't bought a Mac mostly because of budget issues. But it's beautiful, efficient, with a gorgeous interface, much more stable than PCs and it's the computer of choice for multimedia people, even for some people in science, when they still had their own processors, which were so much more efficient than Intel (at the time). Now with Intel processors I don't know. Usually people do not complain at all of their Mac or of Apple's service. If you have the money to buy a Mac, go for one.

Err, yes... I think that is more than a little off-topic!

If you had even mentioned photography, just once, it might have helped. A bit.

Well, photography was there, but implicitly... Even because this is a follow-up to a question on which computer is the best for processing digital pics, and I guess every aspect counts. Suppose we were talking about labs which do good old film processing, and you'd have to choose between two labs that process photos equally well. Than what is the criterion for choosing? For me, it would be a balance between which the service is faster, price and best customer treatment. For me those aspects also count... so, even if photography was not the main target of my post, it helps to know these kind of things, I guess. I'd be happy if someone told me huge drawbacks of an equipment that will be my main tool for processing my pics and avoid a lot of headache later. Also notice that, by the end, I mention that Macs are the computer of choice for multimedia people... and multimedia can be thought of as encompassing photography, can't it? Anyway, don't want to start a flame here. Just explaining why I thought it might have been pertinent to post the info I did, even if it would seem off-topic.

Unnatural?

Hm, I don't understand what you mean by "unnatural", Panu. You could argue that the second one is a bit too blue-ish, and I'd say it could be a problem with your camera's white balance. But then, you say you've taken it in "Fuzichrome color" (which I assume to be "Fujichrome color") and it could be a problem of your development, then. If have taken it to a lab to have it developed, then you should complain with them - usually cloudy days don't come so blue on film, as far as I can remember from my days of film shooting...

It's a scanned slide? Does the scan look like the original slide? If not, just correct the scan on the computer.

4. However for landsape if you want the background sharp a high f number will be needed. A low number will blur the background.

So perhaps the best piece of advice i can give is to use a high iso film or setting on digital camera, and a slow shutter speed. Perhaps also a tripod or hood of a car to hold the camera still, this way you can avoid camera shake using really slow shutter speeds.
Hey Jimmy,

We spoke earlier today about charitable organizations and travel on Bloor Street. I tried to find you on Facebook, but was unfortunately unsuccessful. I'm happy to have found you here.

Drop me a line at peppermynts@gmail.com if you get this message.

Cheers,

Christina
