Time Lapsed Video Photography

Hello Guys,

Now-a-days if you see documentaries in NGC and Discovery the camer work is shooting the whole day account and showed us in a fast forward action the whole account.

For example : Sunrise on a snow peaks (15min video ) in hardly 5/10 seconds..

Or showing the whole day account of 10/12 hours in 30 seconds showing clouds floating /daylight changing .

I googled and found out its called Time Lapsed phtography ...I was thinking how can I do during a trek in himalays using our HDD camcorder (30 GB or so) any ideas ?

RTFM?

Or at least post the model number, in case someone is feeling helpful or happens to already be familiar with it.

Your camcorder may have an auto time lapse mode, which would be easier than sitting around with your hand on the cable release taking individual shots, then having to string them together.

You may or may not - depending on your camera - be able to do this "in-camera". My suggestion would be to do it during the editing process. I don't know what editing program you use, I use Final Cut Express, and am able to both slow down and speed up sequences. I made a 23 minute film during my last stay in Varanasi and took a 15 second (in real time) clip and lengthened it to over 2 minutes using Final Cut Express.

The basic idea behind what you're talking about is to shoot at a slower frame per second speed, then play back at regular speed (which is, I think, about 24 fps). Some cameras allow this, many don't.

I have a basic camcorder Panasonic HDR-S18 30 GB HDD, 1 Megapixel , not much functionality OIS , 32x Optical zoom...

it doesnt have a time lapse feature i checked in manual..

So suppose I have to shoot the sunrise (shades of light changing on a mountain peak), say for 10-15 minute, I have to first take the whole video and do post processing later ...

I think you are talking about Ultra slow motion cameras 120 FPS or so,,,
I will check Final Cut Express s/w ..

Please share your video on youtube if possible
