The DISADVANTAGES of digital photography

Now preparing for yet another visit to India.

I reach to my huge stash of 35mm film tubs to use for essentials, in small amounts, for travel use.

I also have some plastic spirits bottles, 50ml, as used on long haul flights

You cant store such things on an SD card.

Any other alternatives for light small containers for the pre film age users.

None

I find I have too many small containers as everything is over-packaged nowadays. I recycle most of it. Don't miss anything about the pre-digital camera days! Plenty of reuseables for every trip!

I have literally tens of thousands of photos & slides in storage which I can't bear to even try to sort out! Cartons & cartons & cartons in my garage taking up space. I tried to be very organized but after 30 years of film, too much to deal with. And my husband always got double prints plus slides on every roll of film

I love digital, best thing that was ever invented!!!

Know exactly what you mean, they were perfect for all sorts of things, for instance I used them to store seeds.

Having run out of reliably waterproof shampoo containers that I'd snaffed from hotels, I've recently had to actually BUY some containers!

Too bad we live so far away from each other, I've got about 40 of them! I donate some to a woman's shelter in our town after every trip--I've got enough small shampoos to last forever! I haven't bought shampoo in about 5 years!

In one 2 week trip I usually accumulate between 10 & 14 small shampoo bottles!

They are perfect for storing seeds over the winter. I have a few dozen canisters I keep, and collect seeds from my favourite annuals throughout the summer. Pill bottles also work well.

Empty film containers are certainly useful, here's one that IM members might find of interest...

Cut a hole in the bottom of a film container to fit the handle of your tooth brush. It's then easy to slide up to cover the bristles, the snap cap holds it in firmly in place.

Camelgirl.... Scanning old negatives and slides can do wonders for ones store of memories. The 70's photos I've been posting would have been lost had I not started archiving them to digital. The world is changing faster than we can imagine, and old photos often show what we have lost, or gained.

My black and white negatives have survived very well, but some colour material has started to break down. Dyes fade over time so best to archive colour stuff as soon as possible. You will then have to insure your hard drive is backed up.... Perhaps that's why I upload them to IM? Let the SysOp worry about it.
