Stolen Pictures

Really bad news , when you see your picture uploaded by another person but is funny to do it in the same forum.

The member Nasirkhan has sent today a picture with Reflections at Udai sagar and oddly enough the picture is mine and was sent by me last 18th September 2008. The number is 2372.

Really sad because is so easy to take pictures ....

shaleen,

You are absolutely right, the matter has not importance at all. If he is really interested I can give him few hundreds because I have around 25,000 pics of India and time to time people ask for my permission to include one of my pictures here or there and I give always the permission ands even send an special file.

Well, it might not seem like a big deal, but that photo is your copyright and your intellectual property, and if the guy sells it to someone as his own you are going to feel differently.

Also, if you don't do anything about the first instance, and someone else uses the photo, your ability to claim that your rights have been infringed will be diminished.

I would be absolutely furious if someone stole one of my photos, but that's probably because being such an amateur, I have taken so few that are worth stealing that I feel attached to them...

It's just wrong.

Jorge is one of the only members whose photos I view JUST because they are Jorge's photos, I've got so used to them that I feel I can tell if a photo is Jorge's just by looking at it.

My favourite photographer.

On a slightly related topic....

Occasionally I search the web for a choice short sentence from one of my train threads, I've found large sections copied a few times and it really annoys me, I do the train threads for indiamike.com, not for other websites or other people to pretend they know the info I post, and I'm always suspicious of their motives.

Steven,

I'm so moved to be your favourite photographer that I have to confess that since my first months here in Indiamike your post were my favourites even if you normally only write about something
not much sophisticated like trains.

All the best and hope to meet you anytime and anywhere in India

It happens. The internet is the best AND worst thing to ever happen to photography. From here on, photoshop a watermark of your name/website on all your uploads, and/or don't upload large high-res images so they can't be reproduced in print. As for the other guy, you can ask him to at least have the courtesy of crediting your name in his post.

Though it may not prevent....but still...it is one of the reasons I keep my pics in low rez and have started writing my name and contact number on it, so that if anyone gets interested........but that is a simple thing and can be wiped out in photoshop

My Nikon d700 (and I think most new DSLR cameras) have the ability to program personal copyright info (name, website, etc.) into the exif data of every photo you take. I'm pretty sure this info can also be wiped out with post-processing software, however it at least makes things a bit more complicated for stealers of intellectual property.

But Jorge, if this has happened here, why should you take it so lightly ? Report it to any mod (although I'm sure that someone must have seen it by this time), get that copy deleted and that guy must be banned here - no question about it. Stringent action must be taken as it has happened in the same forum.

mousourik,

I'm taken lightly because I'm nor a photographer and my copyrights are only important for the "ego" and I try to have my "ego" as low as possible.

The man deleted himself the pic and now I feel sorry just for oppening the thread, probably a private message could have been more than enough. That's Life.

Jorge
