Sony Alpha 200

Has anyone used Sony's entry level DSLR - Alpha 200. Currently it is available in the Us for around USD 700 including 2 kit lenses 18mm -70 mm and 75mm-300mm.

Please let me know your thoughts, as I a friend of mine is coming down from the US and I wanted to request him to carry it for me.

thanks

Don't know much about the model but price does look cheaper as compared to JJ Mehta http://www.jjmehta.com/pricelist/son...am_pricing.htm

I don't have the a200. But the a700 and the 18-70mm. The Lens is ok. The system is quite good as you'll find lots of used Minolta lenses which have a very good quality (eg 50mm f1.4 or 80mm f1.4) for little money.

The the new sensors by Sony are supposed to be very good as well (mine is for sure).

@piyush: the new sensors are far ahead of the a100, especially on high iso.

edit: i just read that the sensor of the a200 is essentially the same than the a100. So that might be a little drawback, though it's still a great sensor for an entry-level camera.

Thanks every one.

Larsomat the kit lens is 18-70 mm(27-105 35 mm equvi)which seems fine but the apperture f3.5 - f5.6 which doesnt seem promising - what do you think?

@spicetrekker: you get what you pay for. i believe it's a great value for money. it's the sharpest cheap kit-lens I ever owned. If you want better, you'll have to pay more.

e.g.: http://www.popphoto.com/cameralenses...nnar-t-af.html

but I don't think that it's worth the money. better get some prime lenses in addition to the kit (you can do that later, when you're sure that you want to get more out of your photography).

One problem you might get with a Sony System is the availability of lenses in India. Nikon and Canon are for sure easier to find.

Larsomat - I agree but I am a hardcore Indian and therefore want more for a lower price

Thanks for the Info.

I've got it for several weeks at a deal price of $499

http://www.dealstudio.com/searchdeal...04328 &ru=290

Compared to the older Alpha 100, this camera is a bit smaller, but not so much that a person would find it "too small" for their hands. It uses the same, full sized battery as the other current Alphas, including the now top-of-the-line Alpha 700. Additionally, it can be made bigger by adding the vertical grip (although this might make it a bit too large for some).

Typical of the Alpha series, the LCD is very good quality, and, when set to the larger type size, easily readable by older eyes.

and I'm very pleased with the handling and features for such a value price.
