Report on the "paired photos" book from Lonely planet, on CNN.

I was wondering if anybody saw the report(about 5 mins) on CNN(newsnight/aaron brown) which profiled the photos from a book of world photos released by the lonely planet guide, which developed an interestin thesis.

They paired up(presumably on facing plates) photos from very disparate parts of the world which were (quite accidentally) similar compositions.

examples:1. Plate one had a 10-13 C rajasthan temple with pillars balancing both sides of the composition and some people standing in the middle of the frame in front of an altar.Plate 2 had a zen buddhist temple (Bright orange, with calligraphy on the flags flanking the composition) with very similar pillairs/ central altar/ people in front structure to the picture.

2. the first plate had a lilly pond in the back with three buddhist monks (thailand)walking in the foreground(yellow robes, white flowers, green pond). the second had three teenagers jumping in a freezeframe in a slum in brazil (everything was grey).

3. The first plate had a guy negotiating the ice on a mountain, centered in the picture, the second had someone waterski-ing

The point to the report was that the similarity in the framing of these pictures, even as we saw the obviously dissimilar backgrounds, surroundings...and everything else...in each plate, was not accidental. there was something we looked for in good travel pictures. A grammar if you will.

Please comment even if you have not seen the reporton CNN/ seen the book...but get the idea.

Ps: I'm posting this at 9.24 Pm PT, and the show(newsnight) is on at 10 PM PT again...

At the risk of sounding wierd, I see the female form most in nature...in the mountains, rivers, valleys, trees etc. I feel its just a matter of perspective...its how we see that counts and thats where boundries finish and we are just humans on one earth....We don't get CNN here but the pictures sound like great viewing...
