Recently Arrived
So I have recently arrived in Gurgaon for my new job.
I haven't been able to take any "proper" pictures yet so here are some snapshots of my impressions to date. http://www.pbase.com/cmclaughlan/india The first picture in the series is to celebrate my new favourite custom. Samosas, in that case a bread one, to celebrate all kinds of events. So much better than nasty Costco white cake !! Colin |

I got invited to my first ever Indian wedding on Friday. What an event. I loved it. And the food, oh my goodness. So much, so good. I tried hard to avoid taking my camera but I couldn't help myself and ran to my car to capture some images.
http://www.pbase.com/cmclaughlan/india Today I visited Mata Bhuvneshwari Devi Temple not far from Gurgaon. I don't think I've felt so peaceful in many a day. (Or maybe that is just me being weaned off of Diet Coke ?) Anyway, some pictures from there here: http://www.pbase.com/cmclaughlan/mbvt Colin |

I got to walk my little feet off yesterday. Went for a wander around Chandni Chowk. Apart from being denied tea/coffee at a vendor, I just smiled, said "Thank-you" and moved on, I had a wonderful day out. Glad the office closed so I could do it on a week-day rather than a Saturday.
Anyhoo piccies ! http://www.pbase.com/cmclaughlan/old_delhi Colin |

Denied?
It's not like an Indian venture to refuse custom... Could you by any chance be misunderstanding the Indian half-head-shake which actually means 'yes'? |

Given that each time it was accompanied by a rather emphatic "no" while looking me in the eyes ? No. Afraid not.
I just think they didn't want anything to do with the crazy looking big white guy. I wasn't offended and went merrily on my way. |

Kaadian, I just have to say I found some of you photos really amazing! I just have a question, do you do all the settings manually or semi-automatic?
I have just gotten myself a D80 and am trying to figure out how to make the most out of it, and I am flying to India next Saturday and am very much looking foprward to some great photo opportunitites.. thanks! |

Hey Kaadian
Sometimes strange circumstances saves us from Delhi belly even... maybe it was your angel who protected you. ... Be careful with street food in general... I have been sick a few times in India because of the tempting foods of the streets. Since I have totally quit with it, I haven't been sick even once, and now, this is nearly two yeas going on like this.![]() |

Thank-you for your kind words. I am sure you will have a wonderful time. The things to see and photograph are just staggering. Most of the time I stick the camera on P and am perfectly happily. Unless I know I want lots of focus in which case i stick it on A and f11 or I know I want a very shallow depth of field and then i stick it on f2.8 And that's pretty much me. D700, auto-iso, great high ISO images, VR lens means I have pretty much forgotten what my SB800 flash looks like. Colin |

I've been lucky to go to a couple of weddings recently that had amazing street food, all hygienically prepared (with lots of clean running water around) so I got to try lots of stuff then. However, your advice is well taken ! Colin |
