Pics of my Sitar being built!

THought some might be interested....


I am having a sitar custom built and designed by Tony Karasek. He is a master builder and has worked for Ravi Shankar and Shujaat Khan(You know him, right Tomi!).

He has set up a new sitar making business in Pune and although he is having some major headaches, he is doing fantastic work.

He has made it a point to send me pics of the process from day #1. His e-mails to me have been insightful and funny! Here is a link to the photos he has sent me. He said the next phase of construction has been so completed....so hopefully more pics are coming!

Do you play?

No I don't play. I am just fascinated that you do. When was your first exposure to Sitar?

I have been playing bass guitar and upright bass for almost 20 years. I have always loved music from India, classical and movie songs. I went and saw Anoushka Shankar play at the MET in NYC and the next day, I ordered a sitar determined to learn it!

I wish I started 20 years ago!
