Weird Lens - Ultrawide to Telephoto
Nikon is going to introduce a new but weird lens. It is the 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 ED VR . Now people may think what is unusual about this lens....Nikon have such a lens, Canon, Sigma, Tamron everybody has ....but in APS-C format, which is equivalent of the 28-300 superzoom in 35 mm/Full Frame format.
The weird thing is that Nikon says this will be on FX format (that is Full Frame) ...that means Ultrawide to medium Telephoto
This will be the first lens of this type and focal length in the world, if ultimately introduced.
Other new Nikon lenses to be released in the coming months are :
Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.4G N – (there could be a VR version)
Nikkor 24-120 f/4 ED VR N
Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 ED VR DX – this is an upgrade of the current 55-200mm lens for DX format.
"N" stands for Nano coating. It will be available in all Nikon lenses from now on.
Future plans for a new set of lenses for the upcoming Nikon EVIL system should also be announced. Expected is a general zoom lens (maybe something in the range of 18-55) and a pancake lens (probably 35mm f/1.8). Note that those lenses will not be available for some time and the final production version may vary from the initial prototypes.

Definitely Somnath. Nikon D3100 is not officially announced yet. So, no reviews. I will post reivew links as soon as they come in the net.
As per the features, it is going to trump the beginer-consumer line up of other manufactuers.

The most interesting thing in the new D-SLRs will be the Autofocus in Video modes. Lets see how it performs. Hope they match up at least with the consumer camcorders available in the market. If this goes successful, I forsee a drastic collapse of the consumer camcorder market.

Talking of video feature in SLRs, if anyone wants to experiment, there's a free (open source) program called EOS Camera Movie Record, that records HD (720P) with any Canon EOS camera with the Live View feature.
Keep in mind that it has limitations - the camera has to have the Live View feature, it has to be hooked up to your PC when recording, it will save the recording on the desktop, the files can be large - I did a test video with my Rebel XS and 10 seconds was about 15+mb. You are pretty much limited to indoor photography, unless you use a lap top and have someone carry it around, etc.
Fun to experiment.

Nice links Hydrabadi...I am gradually getting interested in the video features of the D-SLRs. Earlier, I did not liked the consumer grade camcorders (though have one with wide attachment) because they did not offer good wideangle options (quality degrades with wide adapters). As I love to shoot landscapes, my mainstay always have been on the wider side. I shoot about 90% of my images with this. Now, with D-SLRs capable of good video (if), I can use wide to ultra-wide lenses with them.
