Overland Hippie Trail etc. Photos

There have been many postings of photos taken from late 60's to mid 70's. The nostalgic early years before cell phones and email. The time when you could get really get lost and out of touch in India. The time when you could travel for days without seeing a Coca Cola sign.
The postings of these photos are scattered around. If you click on photos on the home page from the bar on top and search for words like overland, hippie trail, kabul or Iran or dates like 1970 or 1975 you will find a few photos. Below are 4 links to members home photo galleries that have postings of these early photos as well as newer ones. There are probably more. Please add to list with new postings

IndiaMike is becoming quite a repository of vintage photos from India and the hippie trail. Glad I could make a few contributions.

Still have more images in my archives so will keep them coming. If a photo is worth 10^3 words, then the memories these old shots trigger could easily fill a book.... What's unreal is how fast the time has flown past... I wonder what changes India will see in the next thirty to forty years? I probably won't be around then but someone will probably say..."You should have seen it back in 2007, those were the days"......

I wish I'd had a camera back then. That was too complicated for me in those days, so many thanx to everyone who wasn't QUITE as $t@ned as me back then

I just completed a bit of a redo of the hippy trail yesterday- caossed from Pak to India via Wagah/Attari. No psychic Indian customs lady anymore, lolol

Oh, I remember her quite well; she kept us at the border for hours. We DID have something, but she didn't really look very hard for it, or she didn't look in the right places, so we never gave it up! I think so many travellers used to freeze beneather her steel-y gaze, but I was busy staring at her emerald earrings so the "evil eye" had no effect on me!

Hope to hear more about your visit to Pakistan, and happy to hear you are back to Mom India! Do you head for B'lore now?

Just found this link while Google-ing,.. photos and tales from overlanding during 70-71.... http://tommcknight.com/family/mcknig...ia/india01.htm

They mention spending the night in the Taj crypt, meditating and chanting. In 1970 I made a photograph in the crypt and was searching to see if any others are posted on the web.
