North India photos (in order this time)

http://ralphs-photos.fotopic.net/c326312.html

Earlier link was faulty due to the EXIF data having been wiped out. Photos from a month in India (Sept-Oct 2004) visiting Delhi, Shimla, Manali, Leh, Stok Khangri, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Ranthambhore National Park, Agra, then back to Delhi.

Hope you find some you like, let me know what you think!

great pics!

we're planning our first trip to india and are covering some of the same spots . . . can you tell us more about the hotel you stayed in at jaisalmer -- great shots from your window! also, was the only good thing about jaipur really the cinema? should we cut it from our itinerary?

thanks!

yep - the D70 certainly is a good camera - and from a people perspective, its great to be able to show the kids the screen - they're used to digital compacts now in India, but DSLRs are still a bit of a novelty for them!

http://www.killabhawan.com/ - I also did a write-up in the hotels section. They are very nice owners, its small (6 rooms total) and well-located in the Fort. Its not cheap (RS2000 / night inc. breakfast on the roof) but its very tastefully decorated and its quality. The only thing is that not everyone will like having to share a bathroom - I think only one or two rooms are ensuite.

I hated Jaipur - the momument were all in a terrible state, the place is packed with traffic, dirty, so much aggressive begging its unbelievable (I had one woman dripping in silver press me for 20 rupees whilst her kid asked me simultaneously for 10) - its all very poor. In retrospect, I wish I'd heeded other travellers advice and cut Jaipur from the route and gone to Pushkar instead. I might have been a bit fort/templed out by the time I got to Jaipur which contributed to my impression of the place, but it definitely did not have a nice vibe to it.
