nikon d60

hello guys
planning to buy a dslr with a zoom lens ..though i'm not a proff photographer but i can make u sure it's my innermost passion ..i have a second hand film slr canon eos88 with 35 - 80 mm lens , i have one more widening lens which i normally use over it ..now the query is
what is the major diff b/w d60 and d40 ??
what is the price for 18-200 or 50-300 zoom lens in nikon ??
i'm getting d60 with 18-55mm + 2gb card for 34000/= at homeshop18 and they are giving me 50% cash back gift certificates ..what u say for this offer and price??
Can exchange of lens 18-55mm to 18-200mm is possible at nikon outlets?? what will be the price diff will be like??
as the offer is for few days only please help me asap..

I'm not sure what the current exchange rate is, but there are lots of places that sell it online at USD $550.00, with that lens, so that rate seems fairly high. Cash back certificates are limited in use so limited in value.

As for exchanging the lens, I use a Pentax and it seems that most lenses are 30-80 and then 80-200. It's hard to find a zoom all the way from 18-200, and I don't think it would work very well mechanically. The up to 200 is also quite a big lens, heavier so needs more careful handling carrying, while the up to 80 is smaller and less obvious/easier to carry.

But i'm not really one of the camera gurus around here, so others may have better advice.

You are better off asking / finding answers to this question at:

You mention that you already have some EOS lenses. Have you checked for compatibility with newer models? I recently bought a Rebel XSi, not the latest greatest but had some features like 'live view' that I liked. Besides I have a few other lenses that are compatible. And came 'cheap'.

Mostly, when you buy a SLR, D or otherwise, you are buying into a system, unlike a P&S camera.

Both lines of thought have their advantages and disadvantages, as usual.

Bottom line, economically: If you already have the 'glass' go with the compatible 'body'.

THE best Canon lenses here (I'm drooling):

Taken with the IS lens that came with the camera (18-55):

Note how the fringes of the brighter features of the picture have a 'purple fringe'. Ignorable most times.

I'll probably go for the D40.
From what I've researched the D60 has the same sensor as the D60, with more pixels jammed into it, which can actually make the images less clear. It's also not as light sensitive and fast. To really go up from the D40 you need to go all the way to the D90 which costs more than I want to spend right now.
