Hay folksÖIíve just uploaded my album of Mysore Zoo at webshots.com. Those who are interested in photos of animals and people watching animals can have a look at it here!

Mysore zoo is a 100+ years old zoo located at the heart of the city. It is a nice place to watch animals in its natural looking habitat. They have a huge list of animals and birds apart from the rare trees etc. It can take anything from 2 to 3 hours to complete the visit.

Lions, Peacocks, Tigers, Hippo, Zebras, Chimpanzee, Gorilla, Rhino, Deers, Peacocks, various migratory birds, Snakes, Öetc are the main attractions. You are allowed to move inside a huge cage to watch the birds at very close distance. Iíve taken the photographs & uploaded a lot of signboards also. Most of it explains the animalís natural habitat locations, food, diet, status etc. Also a number of photos of people inside the zoo.

I could not catch photos many animals and birds. The Sun bear has been shy always. The Tapir never gave me a good pose (I waited for Ĺ hour!).The tiger refused to standup from the grass place.

Entry fee is Rs20/- and Rs10/- for camera. Monday is holiday (for all the Indian zoos). Avoid Sundays are it is crowded on weekends.

Here is an animal puzzle . This signboard was displayed inside the Zoo. I thought of posting it here for people to guess the animal by looking at the footprint. Iíll post the answers later.

Beach...I was wondering where you were. I LOVE Mysore Zoo - its my mom's home town and I have visited the zoo many times with my granddad and parents. Is the Elephant safari still there?
BTW, I love animals a LOT and you made me very happy with your pix. Especially the baby elephant watching people curiously.

I visited Mysore Zoo a couple of years back. Sprawled out in the gloom of one of the tiger cages was a rather majestic-looking beast that somehow looked unreal. Although not 100% certain, I got the distinct impression that this animal was more dead than alive - either a stuffed skin or a fibreglass model. Has anyone else come away from the zoo with this thought in mind ?

Don't like zoos but went to Mysore Zoo to kill some time and specifically to see the white tigers.... came away incredibly depressed as they were stuck in tiny cages.

No, the elephant safari is not there. They replaced it with some kind of open bus. But itís better to walk, if you can. That is more enjoyable.

Mysore is pleasant during the daytime. By 6 or so in the evening it starts raining, and lasts almost throughout the night.

Iím not sure about the stuffed animals in this Zoo. If it was in the cage, I feel it was a living one only. There are about 6 tigers in the zoo. I think a tiger died recently. There is a museum at Chennai with a HUGE collection of stuffed animals. It is somewhere in Montiath Road.

The tiger cages are very dinky and smelly. But there is a wide grassland covered with trees and bushes attached to it through a tunnel or something like that. Itís trenched and fenced all around. When the animals are in this bush place, it is difficult spot them as the grass is tall and thick.
