Just got my new Nikon D70...

...in preparation for my Nov. trip to India. I had a point and shoot digital camera before but it sucked when it came to night photography So I decided to get the DSLR. Plus I needed the ability to shoot frame after frame without having to wait for the damned camera to get ready for each shot. WoooHoooo

Excellent Choice! . I use a D100 while in India but the only problem with these Nikons is the sensor which attracts dust easily and can be a pain to clean. Unfortunately if the sensor gets dirty it messes up the pictures. Nikon is due to make a "BIG" announcement soon to launch some new 8MP cameras so I am looking forward to upgrading my D100..

I know what you mean by the dust. I am expecting to clean the camera sensor at least once while in India...I don't expect to change the lens very often as the 18-70 mm lens that came with the D70 is simply unbelievable Can't wait to see the sunsets in Kanyakumari

You will have dust in the sensor regardless if you change the lens or not. I have had this happen with my D100. Anyway be careful when you clean the sensor or have the Nikon guys do it for you. Hopefully the sensor in the upcoming D80 and the D200 are a bit easier to clean.

If you get some sensor swabs and Eclipse fluid you can do it yourself pretty easy. Make sure you get the right size swabs. Nikon 1) take ages to clean the camera and b) charge heftily for the service, so its better to do it yourself, plus you can do it on the hoof. (white wall, F22 to check)

I wouldn't worry too much about dust on the sensor though - you can always touch them up with Photoshop (healing brush) when you're back.

Great choice of camera though, back from India and v. pleased with my D70 too!
