Hi Lovish,
I would recommend first reading a few good books about photography and joining some photography forums, like this one PhotoCamel.com http://photocamel.com/forum/

The Understanding Exposure book is almost considered the de facto standard for basic photography nowadays. Anything by Bryan Peterson is good.

i'm a 2 year hobbyist from singapore and we do have a relatively well structured photographic forum that has good traffic and is well balanced between galleries, technical and non technical discussions.

some recommendation on text to read. but generally the internet has a wealth of information to read, and you just need to see a lot of good pictures and practice a lot. second bryan peterson's books for basics - repetition is good, and his books generally do that to ingrain the basics and form a good foundation.

given the increasing competition of digital SLR, learning curves have got much faster. but to save cost (if that is an issue), manual focus lens can be cheaper and give you more choices.

if you ever consider dropping over to singapore to get a camera, here's a link for safer options for foreigners.

If thats your level then you are 10 years away from making a living

What type of photography are you thinking of exploring?

Very Correct!!!
There is no one answer to "How to be a pro photographer?"

I have seen people who were in a 12 hours-a-day-job and used to take their cameras out only on weekends. They were good and their shots were featured in some magazines and they got famous. Later, they started living by clicking.

For institutes in Delhi, I would suggest to pick up any if the Indian Photographic Magazines. Smart Photography, Better Photography, etc.. They have lots of advertisements on the institutes.

check out this girl, she quit a top school at 16 to join an arts school, won and became the youngest best master photographer at 18, and now only 19.

it takes a lot of talent. not just hard work.

You can probably find a lot of photography books online that you can print or read off the computer itself. One great website for resources like this is scribd.com which has lots of free ebooks and texts. Check it out. That might be a good start for getting into the photo groove.

but how is the outlook of professional photography in india. are people willing to pay for that, and how big is the market, may be what you want to think about taking it as a career.
