How much difference between 8MP and 10MP camera

Guys,

Help me with this confusion.. Firstly i want to understand how much difference would be in the quality of Picture between a 8 MP and 10 MP camera.. I am talking about Cannon EOS350D and Cannon EOS400D.

This price difference is almost of 12K at the moment..While i read sometimes back that Megapixel is just a gimmick for higher price. While i am tempted to buy 350D because of lower price. on the hand i feel why not go for the latest..

Waiting for replies...

with two prints , one from a 8 MP and one 10 MP , I´m willing to bet that you can´t see the differnce.

The dust removal system should be worth a lot , though.

Unless you are into printing your pics.. specially enlargements.. 8MP is more than enough..

spend money on better quality telephoto/macro lens and stuff like that rather than higher MP

Thanks all, but are you saying that 400D is with dust removal, while 350D lacks that..

Hmm high optical zoom .. worth considering but i will go one by one and save some money for that..

Do you want to make huge enlargements, more than 20" x 30" sizes? Otherwise an 8 MP D-SLR is adequate (in fact more than adequate) for normal use. As everybody said, the dust removal system in 400D may be effective or otherwise you can invest that money in a good quality lens. 350D is a nice camera.

I guess dust removal will be an important feature for me, I do lots of traveling and mostly rural areas..Hmm 12K for that..I need to prepare myself for that.. and that means i will have to wait at least for two months from now..

since you are planning to buy a DSLR, let me suggest you a buying guide.

http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-7603_7-...html?tag=prmo1

i have used both 350d and 400d and i think both are good. if there is a 12k difference, i will just buy a 350D body pool in the 12 k saving in buying a good lens. both 350d and 400d come with average lens.

next weekend i am buying Nikon D80. if you want something around the price of canon350d, you can consider nikon n40d.

www.dpreview.com can give you better idea then india mike :-)

The human eye can distinguish quality differences upto 5 MP. After that it is no use buying higher MP cameras unless you are going to print large pictures which none of us do.

Average users are recommeneded to set their camera at 3 MP. The quality is good and you can get more pictures stored on your memory stick.

i personally like to shoot RAW...dont want my camera doing any of the post processing including dust removal...
dedicated third party softwares will do the job much better and with more control on you part...

like others mentioned megapixels dont translate to quality only to amount of resolution...unless you are a pro/semi-pro you wont have any need for that large format printout...

any idea how many mega pixels are equivalent to a 35 mm film?

anything more than that is a over kill. but i wont buy a 3 mega pixel camera now :-)
sensor cleaning is also not a big deal.

so

350d with a better lens is lot better than 400d with pathetic kit lens

8MP to 10MP

You won't see any difference unless you are printing 24"x36"..!

The sensor size of both 350D and 400D is the same... packing more pixels in the same sensor increases the possibility of noise at higher ISO.

The dust removal system is extra in 400D...however most of tests indicate that it is of not much use.

The kit lens which comes with both 350D and 400D is pretty decent for starting DSLR photography....use it and then decide on further lenses....
A good quality lens on a 350D will certainly produce prints to rival any cam...

12K is a substantial amount. Money saved can be used for buying accesories....

Are you buying grey or canon india...??
