Hi All,
I am planning to buy a digicam ~10-13K range. Could you please give me any suggestion to guide me to get the best one in my range with all available features. I am looking for a good megapixel qualily (greater than 3 atleast) 3x+ zoom and with all other facilities which will be excellent for a close + long shot. The profile for canon powershot A95 looks good to me. Any other advise/experience please ? Thanks in advance ~ |

I have the A85. It is an easy to use solid camera. I had the A75 before this and that was also a very good camera.
I think the A95 is very similar but the LCD part can be folded out and it has a higher megapixel count than the A85. |

Thanks Shere!
any idea if I go for a A85 than A95 ? I don't mind to get one without the folded LCD. By 10-12K I meant @ Indian Rupees. I am not biased with canon. Any other brand will work fine. ![]() |

A85 or A95 ???
I am not in the camp that thinks the more megapixels the better. So unless 5 megapixels and a flip our LCD is essential I would go for the A85. Check out the comprehensive reviews of both cameras at the following site : http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html The new Canons A510 and A520 might be worth looking at. They use SD cards for storage and only 2 AA batteries. The A85 and A95 use compact flash and 4 AA batteries. When I was buying I initially bought a Nikon Coolpix but found whatever I did the pictures were always a tad too dark. The people at the shop did not know why this was happening. The A85 was being sold recently in the UK for just under £100 which was a superb bargain. |

I was using an A-95 till recently, and its pretty neat. local price here in calcutta is about 12 k. the a-85 is decent too. i recently traded in my a-95 for a canon s2-is. its sexy!!!!, but probably beyond your budget (23k @ fancy market). you ought to try out the a-510 as suggested by shere. its ore compact than the a-95.

nick,
the company price for the s2 is 32495. its available for about 28000 officially and 23,000 in the gray market. i think one can get it a little cheaper too in chennai / mumbai. jjmehta.com lists it for 23995, and they give a discount if you buy it there (as told to me by a friend who bought one). samit |

Samit, thanks, that is a bit cheaper than I can get it in UK on the internet.
Anyone know any dealers' names in Chennai? (my home when in India) I've always heard that the post in India is not, err, entirely to be trusted: that would make me nervous about buying something very expensive on the net there. Or do they use trusted couriers? I'm fairly reluctant to do it here in UK: never mind the post, it is just nice to have a shop to bring the thing home from straight away ---and to take it back to if there are problems ![]() |

nick, i agree with you. its always nice to be able to see and feel what you are buying. i guess it becomes only a little easier when you know exactly what you want when ordering from the net.
the post here is indeed risky. you can always use a courier service. but they are expensive. add to that any customs costs you will have to pay. keep in mind that buying from the grey market you wont have any papers. chennai dealers i believe are around burma market? whats teh price difference working out to be? i think the best price online is about USD 369. samit

Wow! The best UK price online would be >300 GBP! But then this is rip-off Britain.
I wouldn't buy from USA (unless I was visiting). Our UK customs here would add quite a lot in taxes and duty. |

nick,
GBP 300 works out to approx Rs 24,000. and thats legal, versus the illegally got (without customs) version that you would get for 23000 here. not much of a difference at all i'd say. samit |

Well, it is probably more like 330/350, but no, I wouldn;t want to buy a grey one in India: something like that needs a warranty!
