Do you think this is the same tightrope girl?

I was just looking at Yogagal's beautiful photo gallery and noticed the dear little tightrope girl in Maduarai - I was wondering if this is the same little girl we shot in Jaisalmer in January... I guess these families travel around a lot.. I'll post one of our shots here and if Yogagal doesn't mind a link to her shot.http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...=18364..(le t me know if you mind).. I can't be 100% sure she is the same... what do you think?

She didn't look all that happy and her Dad was really pushing her along - it would be interesting to follow one of these families. I wonder if there is a set 'route' to follow the tourists?

I would say no - one looks like she has a little North-East, Seven Sisters blood in her while the other does not.

It's difficult because the camera angles are so different. And also because they're little girls, and a lot can change in a year or two. How far apart in time were these pictures taken? If Yogagal's is from Feb of this year, and yours is from Jan of this year, there's almost no way.

One clue that they're not the same is that the equipment is different. How likely is it that they'd replace all their gear in a year or two, or have multiple kits?

The hair is almost identical .... although pigtails probably are the obligatory 'doo' for balancing acts - no doubt.

They were only taken about a month apart.. I'll find the other shots and see if the mother is the same... If its not the same girl then just how common is this tightrope walking little girl thing?

Maybe they made so much money in Jaisalmer they bought new stuff??!!

But YogaGal's girl's hair is much shorter. Which, if these were taken just a month or two from each other, makes it unlikely that they are the same. Unless she got a haircut?

So - how common is this? Looks like the act was almost identical - my little one rode a wheel and carried all sorts of things on her head... poor little thing, as I said, she looked pretty grim about it all.

I don't know how common they are but I'd lay a dollar to a doughnut that if I started demanding to see one of those 'high wire acts' in any major center in India - that purely through word-of-mouth an act would materialize itself before too long. Especially the nearer to Rajasthan you are - those busking gypsies seem to walk out from behind any given bush at any given time.

I'm having terrible visions of a tightrope walking sweatshop somewhere where they train them all to do identical acts and wear pigtails! We need yogagal or Aishah from Jaisalmer to help us...There was a little boy across the other side of the road doing the most amazing sleight of hand stuff - his hands were like lightning!

I think circus people until very recently grew up in circus families, either gypsy or gypsy-like -- I won't be surprised to learn that that's still true in Rajasthan.

Talking here I am!

first, thank you, kristin, for saying that my pics are beautiful!

I can tell you exactly when I took the photo -- on January 12, in the late afternoon. when were you in Jaisalmer?

in any event, I would say NOT the same girl... look closely at their faces side to side...the Madurai girl's face is longer and thinner and she's not as dark as your girl....

About the same time - so no, not the same girl - which lends credence to my tightrope sweatshop theory..hmmmm.. It is uncanny how alike they are isn't it? Dad was patrolling up and down underneath handing mine various things like plates and wheels .... I kept expecting him to prod her with a stick.
