Digital Cameras

I was just wondering if any of our intrepid crew has had an opportunity to road-test any of the new crop of digital SLR cameras. I'm mighty tempted to ditch film for good, but I have a considerable investment in lenses and an allergy to rangefinders.

since you can easily have your film shots put on disk, it isn't totally necessary to switch.

Ah, spoken like someone who hasn't wasted untold hours feeding film into a scanner, or cringed as their luggage is scanned in an Indian airport.

I recently bought this one:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...71903?v=glance

on a sale from fry's $799 (mostly because I have cannon lenses already, but also because I've always wanted an SLR digital camera..) Get the feeling that the quality of the low priced(non pro) SLR digital cameras is going to improve very fast over the next few years. I'd hold off if i were you(and already had a good working SLR camera & kit) until this happens....unless you just can't wait- I couldn't.

If I could get a price like that on a Pentax digital SLR I'd buy it tomorrow!

Exactly..

I find cannon is a good workman-like hardworking brand which somehow has a slightly downmarket rap...like JVC or Sharp, in cameras.

Thoroughly unjustified , but if it were not for un-sexy consumer brands, we would never get great quality (usually used) stuff at reasonable prices.
