Hola!!
I have decided to buy a camera, a super zoom one and have zoomed in on Lumix FZ28, Wanted to knw how good it is wen u purchase em online, in ebay to be more precise? 'cause the actual showroom price is 25K, and on ebay, its abt 18K, wen enquired I was told its a new camera!!! Just wanted to hear from u ppl, most of them would have purchased online for cameras.... Is it a safe and better bet to purchase online and will they be new cameras for lesser price?? And, ppl who reply, have any idea abt my choice FZ28? Waitin THanks, Bye |

How come there is such a big difference ? Are you getting warranty ? If not the camera may be from the Grey market.

Don't know mch about your choice of camera but while buying a camera over the internet is a good idean I'm not sure ebay is the right site since you don't really have any guarentees-even that you'll actually get what you've paid for- since it's just a private person selling and not a shop. Have you tried Amazon? I got a brilliant camera from there (Canon Ixus recommended to me by a prof photographer) for very cheap compared to the other sites. Hope this helps.......

Praveen, welcome to the site.
We, along with several other fora, have a policy against using SMS abbreviations and chat lingo, which make stuff hard for some of our members to read. Please take time to spell out your posts. As to the camera, I'd be prepared (and have) to buy something like from a known shop, but grey. I would not send my money to a faceless name on e-bay; not with big amounts like that. Just my personal point of view. |

oh yes,
Thank you. Amazon is a good choice, but, do they send goods to India?? I will check in there and see about the same. Now, I am thinking twice to go ahead with the payment to ebay. That might be from the grey market, I asked the owner and was told its a 'new camera'!!! and the camera is with one years' dealers warranty!! I will check out in Amazon if that is good, an is it a safe heaven, AMazon?? THanks, Praveen |

Hi Praveen
Yes I bought its wee brother [18] from ebay Hong Kong, no problems, price better and a good bundle too Its a good spec, 27-500ish, lens, shutter lag is something you have to live with, not too bad either, get a spare battery at the same time, as they have a habit, if not ,used of showing 1/2 full and then dying. Good choice as it does not use AA batts Camera should come with full warranty, check out sellers 'satisfaction' rating on his site. Which ebay site are you referring to? |

There is quite a lot of built-in conusmer protection when buying stuff like this in UK. Things can still go wrong, but, in principle at least, if you buy goods on a credit card and the whole deal goes to pieces, your credit card will pay up.
I don't think there is anything like that same level of protection in India. I wonder (I haven't looked) how the terms of e-bay in India may differ to Europe or USA? Please also bear in mind that, if you buy stuff from abroad, the Indian Customs may well slap on a fat charge and spoil your bargain somewhat. I'm not trying to spoil your day here but just pointing out some dangers.I'd buy from my friendly local shop, even if it was grey ("dealer's warranty" --- that's what I got on my camera) --- at least you have someone to shout at! |

Also if you buy from amazon not only the shipping, you have to pay import duty as well...I had ordered something from ebay US...My fault i did not check about extra duty.
