First I heard of it was when they made me put my camera batteries into my checked baggage on my return flight from Delhi to Heathrow, but I've since heard many references to it, not least on internal Indian airlines' own websites. Given the recent bombings and heightened security, I would not be surprised if these things are being particularly well enforced at present. |

Interesting. They allow more powerful phone batteries, MP3 players, computers.....
Thanks, I'll look out for this. |

![]() I took a few internal flights in July. I had a camera with rechargeable batteries inside, plus spare batteries and a charger in my hand baggage and had no problems. |

Nevertheless, if you are a keen photographer or even a freelance like the OP and more than holiday photos depend on this, it's worth being aware of it. |

I was taking an internal flight to Udaiphur(I think) with a UK film crew. The security was intense, though being from the UK with our 'troubles' at the time we appreciated it. A group of Americans in front of us were complaining at every search and checkpoint, waving their passports saying ".... but we're AMERICANS" as if this exempted them.
Two days later we sat in the hotel bar and watched the news coming in on the TV. It was September 11 2001 Last year travelling to Mexico City via Dallas. We found that our equipment had been forced open during the transfer (TSA). Expensive equipment was damaged badly and cases (unlocked) had been forced open causing them not to be closed again. Inside each damaged box was a flyer stating it was not possible to seek any form of compensation and thanked us for our assistance keeping America 'safe' Had to laugh. If they want my batteries, its fine by me. I've found Indian security to be second only to Israeli. Good stuff. Last edited by zeroseven : Oct 7th, 2008 at 22:01. Reason: Accuracy |

Bateries
I just returned from India and I had only carry on bags with cameras, Ipod, portable DVD player, noise cancelling headphones which all use bateries -- I had no problems.

My rule:
Carry all the lenses. Feel pain at shoulders due to weight. Pain disappears when you have some life time shots from those lenses |
