Leave your camera at home, then you can concentrate on enjoying yourself and India.
If you're short on time something has to be given up, better it be all the time worrying about getting ideal photos.

Welcome to IM .I’ll prefer to avoid taking photographs of Taj during noon. Got some nice pix after 4pm on a sunny day. Agra fort during sunset is another attraction for the photographers. But you are requested not to think ‘I came I saw I clicked’. Don’t know about Rajsthan but if you are planning for Varanasi, early morning visit to ghats will give you a lot of opportunities. - Somnath |

I personally the Taj looks its best early in the morning under soft light. Get there when the gates open and try to beat the hordes of tourists.
If you are travelling with someone else, I suggest getting up before they do, (around sunrise), take heaps of pics, then enjoy the rest of the day. The light is generally softer either early in the morning or later in the afternoon. Suss out if there are any festivals on when you are in India. Festivals make for great photo opportunities. Indian people make for great photos. They are generally very receptive to having there photo taken, so don't be shy!
