Digital Camera

just bought a digital camera after doing some research.

got a Fujifilm finepix S700
7.1 megapixels
10X Zoom
View Finder: 2.5" LCD or eye-level electronic viewfinder
Power Source: 4 AA batteries (included)
Still Resolutions: 7MP Fine, 7MP Normal, 3:2, 4MP, 2MP, .3MP
Movie Frames Per Second: 30 fps
Body Type: SLR Style

reason for shorting this camera :-
-good auto & manual mode settings.
-clear 2.5 inch lcd which is very clear.
-10x optical zoom which is very powerfull & clear.
-the body of the camera is good just like an SLR
-bought it from grey market at Rs. 8800/-.
- 1 yr warranty from the shop.

most important indoors low light pictures come out great.
for outdoors this is a fun and easy camera.

i would suggest u to either go in for the regular nikon, sony, canon camera which at 5 to 8 MP with 3 to 5x zoom they are good value for money of ur budget is from 4-7,000/-

thanks
amit

“family, nature and birds”

Family photographs need wide angle and you need a good zoom for birds.
Good suggestion from Amit (I am not sure about the wide part of finepix). You can read some review for “Panasonic TZ 3” (I am using Panasonic FZ 7 and absolutely satisfied with this brand and the quality of image they provide) for excellent coverage both wide as well as tele end which is 28 - 280 mm.

Somnath

i have a simple SONY point and shoot DSC-S60
and i enjoy it

try to buy a fat body as gripping them is better and thus less shake and better photos as compared to the slim-body cameras

Amit, looking at the specs looks a good camera. Especially with 10 X Optical Zoom. You have mentioned Model S700, is it same as Model S5700. I have checked out prices on jjmehta (Mumbai) website
http://www.jjmehta.com/pricelist/pen...io_pricing.htm
For Model S5700 prices are
With 1 GD SD Rs. 13000
With 2 GB SD Rs. 13500
With 2 yrs. warrranty for Fuji

yes that is the model # FinePix S700/S5700.

Rs. 13,000 is the list price. you can also buy it from ebay - the seller is SOLAR, he is the guy at M13 Palika Bazar, New Delhi.

On Ebay he sells it for Rs. 9,500 and if u visit his shop the same is for Rs. 8,800.

the additional SD 2 gb card can be bought for Rs. 1200 & 4 gb for 2400.

you can get that locally also.

thanks

Amit, thanks for that info.
BTW does it have image stabilisation feature ?

Ronak.

PS I checked it's features, it has picture stabilisation mode. It's a must for higher zoom cameras.

For entry level SLR Nikon 40D and Canon 350D
for 10X zoom
Canon SX100,Sony H3..I am using H3 for the past three month well satisfied with the performance.
Canon S3IS and S5IS are also excellent cameras...

To capture bird pics a strong zoom lens will be necessary. Consider the 7.1-megapixel Olympus SP-550 UZ featuring a whopping 18X of optical zoom. Another one of the higher rated digital camera is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3, which boasts a nice wide angle in addition to 10X optical zoom. Another good choice is Panasonic's full featured FZ50, a superzoom model that offers a slew of advanced features, and shoots in RAW format for photographers who demand the flexibility this file format provides.
wishing you happy photo explorations what ever camera you choose.

If you invest a little time 'searching' on photo.net - you should be able to fine tune your search while increasing your basic knowledge of the latest cameras immensely.

Keep in mind the more you zoom, the greater the chance of a blurred photo. If you don't have rock steady hands, investing in a tripod may get you better results. You could of course support yourself against a wall, a tree, etc.

For DSLR, you need to buy a zoom lens separately. While point n shoot cameras are ready to go.
If money is not a constraint and you dont mind changing the lens, go for a DSLR.
