3 weeks in India

Hi,

We are off to india on the 5th of March for 3 weeks and I am doing all the planning including booking flights...What do you think of this plan...How could we improve it?

5th-8th March - Delhi - hotel YUVRAJ DELUXE HOTEL booked
8th - Evening travel to Agra - hotel Sheela
9th - Taj Mahal - evening back to Delhi - (open to ideas got to be back at Deli on 11th for flight to Bangalore)
11th - booked spice jet flight - Delhi > Bangalore
12th - Bangalore
13th / 14th / 15th - Wayanad - rain country resort cottages
16th - wayanad to Trivandrum - Train?
17th / 18th - Kovalam
19th / 20th - Alleppey backwater tour
21st / 22nd - Kumarkom
23rd / 24th Cochin

25th - we have to get back to Mumbai for flight home - It is cheaper to fly from Coimbatore - 3000 rupees total against $449 usd from Trivandrum > Mumbai.

I have read that it is 220kms from Cochin to Coimbatore - are flights from here ok? We do not want to have any probs getting back to Mumbai.

Looking for 3 weeks - mix relaxation, beach with history.

Great forum has really helped me...Cheers!

Looks pretty good. A new superfast train has been introduced which reaches Agra in less than 2 hours from Delhi. So you can take this train early morning from Delhi & return back to Delhi at night.
I have read a lot of negative stuff about Kovalam these days. Please read the posts in the Kerala forum for alternate beach suggestions.
Check all facilities, type of food offered, route taken & where the boat will be anchored at night before booking a house boat. If the boat is anchored much away from land in a big lake you can expect less mosquitoes & good breeze. Carry a repellant cream or some thing.
Good luck.

Its a full moon night around the 14th of March; pity you aren't in Agra then. The Taj by night then would be quite a spectacle.

Calicut is 58 kms from lakkidi.

Train 6330 (The Malabar Express, great name) departs Calicut daily at 23:00 and gets to Trivandrum at 09:10 the following morning. (the train also calls at Varkala at 07:34)

2-tier air con = Rs 785
3-tier air con = Rs 505
First Class = Rs 570 (not air con)(recommended)
Sleeper Class = Rs 190 (not air con)

I preferred Kovalam to Varkala.

Me too - much better range of food, facilities and accomodation. The beach is 10 times nicer, as well.

Tim in Ireland.

You won't have any problem in Coimbatore. You save some $$ by flying out of Coimbatore to Mumbai. There are many trains to Coimbatore from Cochin. Checkout this site:
