I've seen many people with a goat at home in Rajasthan. The goat had the same behaviour as a dog, it was funny. It received pieces of food and drank in a plastic bowl. It even had the right to enter the house.
I also saw a pet care centre in a new disctrict of Delhi (on the way to the Airport, I don't remember its name). So, I suppose people must have pets with them in their flat.

I know people with a monkey. I saw more monkeys on a leash than dogs. And snakes in a basket. And chicken living in a living room (but that was a village) And do the nearly tame geckos also count? Or are they working animals too?

Speaking of dogs on leashes...a couple of years ago I was at Bikaner train station in the early morning and an Indian woman walked onto the platform with a dog ON A LEASH with a COAT on. (the DOG had a coat on!)

I was quite amazed by this and watched this scene for some time. The dog affected the air of the privileged, standing with its owner and looking disdainfully around.

As I watched, a street dog that had been catching some Zs in the station noticed the dog with the coat. He stood up and walked a little closer, obviously very curious. I don't think he could believe it either!

The coat dog stared him down in the most bored way possible. After a few seconds, the poor street dog gave just one indignant and sorrowful yelp...poor guy. He turned to find another place to sleep.

If dogs could talk....felt sorry for the poor guy!
It might be the best of times or the worst of times...but it's the only time you've got!

A few years ago, I was in Jodhpur staying at one of the palace hotels where the "maharaja" lives in one portion of the palace and the guests stay in the other. While waiting for my car and driver in front of the " tourist section", the door to the royal enclosure opened and a liveried servant came out. He placed a large, fluffy pillow in the sun. Following him was a large and somewhat mangy dog. The servant placed the dog on the cushion and actually covered him with a small blanket. He then waited patiently while the dog dozed in the sun.

I asked the doorman .. "Is that the Maharaja's dog?" He replied very seriously ... "Yes sir ... and the Servant of the Maharaja's dog." (head wobble)

I confirm this! My grandmother's dog had a raincoat with a little hood and all! And in winter, it was a woollen coat she knitted on her own!
But they wear coats when it is cold and big dogs have no clothes. But I think people who dress their dogs really think it is more comfortable for their pets; it is not just for fun.
