Hey = let us not forget our insect friends. These White-Faced Meadowhawks patrol the meadow behind the house, are very sociable towards humans, & mossies are one of their favorite snacks.
We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. ~

Peak, please air mail me some white-faced meadowhawks, I was ravaged buy a swarm of TINY mossies yesterday in Pondi, in the car, with AC on, it was a total sneak attack, they grab and devour you before you even see them!!!
I had better not get malaria (or worse) with another five weeks to go on this trip!!!!

Or maybe even better yet, send me Ms. Pounce to snuggle with!

Unfortunately she died four days later
. She had a good seven years with me but the start and finish of her life were very sad. I found her with distemper on the roads of Bangalore when she was about 9 months. She was a real feisty girl and survived the distemper but had permanent nerve damage. Nonetheless she really enjoyed her life. It is a real shame it had to end like this. But this was at least dog against dog. This year I lost six dogs through poisoning. That is stupid human against dog which makes me really mad
. The time will come when men will look upon the murder of animals as they look upon the murder of men.

Phoebe for the second time, was grabbed by a Leopard by our front door, but escaped somehow with a few gashes and one nasty one on the back of the head, but we believe those wounds are quite clean and seemingly uninfected in themselves.
However this nasty fluid/odema has severely swollen her face and neck the past nearly three days. She's had anti-inflammatory early on and we had started her on anti-biotic pills orally which she would later throw up, thus we started shots this evening. She eats a little roti and can drink water which is encouraging. You may be thinking just take her to a vet, well if only it were so easy.
Thinking aloud that the odema may need draining at some stage, has anybody had experience of this?

Very sad! But 'bravo' Phoebe'!@Paleface, I am not sure how the oedema (edema) could be drained by untrained hands! How has it got collected, in the 1st place? You mention that the wounds seem uninfected
! I suggest, please try to take it to a vet, I read it is difficult in the place where you are staying! But please walk that extra mile to help this poor pet. Some painkillers and the anti-biotic medicine will help only for a short time. Better to take some professional advise.
I wish Phoebe a fast recovery

I'll pass on your positive vibes to Phoebe.
The odema/liquid has gathered in the face, lips, neck and must be extremely uncomfortable, i mean there's a lot, a litre + i'd say.. That could be a combination of trauma and bacterial infection, rampant in monsoon. Draining the liquid which has gathered between the skin and the muscle is reasonably straightforward, in theory!
Find the pocket of liquid with a syringe and tap it.. usually i think the animal needs to be sedated, we're not sure whether she could handle that now, what with the anti-bio shots a.m and p.m. which of course knocks her out and she's weak anyway from not eating. One wound did have a little bit of pus and has been thoroughly cleaned again.
The nearest Vet clinic is 5/6 hours drive away, providing the roads are open, that's a difficult
