Microchip, Rabies, export to europe

Did you have to pay additionals in Mumbai? We get a lot of report of people who are asked for money by the Mumbai officials, I have amounts of INR 1,500 to 10,000!
I would like to know whether there is any truth in these stories.
The time will come when men will look upon the murder of animals as they look upon the murder of men.

i have been in India long enough to know that things often only move with a bribe but I did not pay one, just sat for a number of hours waiting. It is a bit like the FRRO for dogs!! There are many agents there who am sure a expediting the process for people!!
It is a pity because then that raises the expectation that everyone will pay to speed it up!

Dog to Goa
Hi there,
Just stumbled upon India Mike because I'm planning on moving back to India with my dog. So glad this place exists for some support because surely import/export of pets to India is no easy matter.
My dog's moved to UK before, so I have done all the tedious legwork to get the microchipping, rabies test, 6 month wait etc. Now she has a pet passport.
Luna- here's what I had to do when I took my dog and cat to the UK. Granted I moved them from the US-UK but I don't think movign them from India to Europe is much different. Perhaps just the names of the forms.
-Letter from vet stating microchipping was done, with the microchip number. Letter signed in 'blue ink' and stamped with vet's official seal. There was no other 'proof' of microchipping needed. At the European airport (Heathrow in my case), they will most likely scan your dog themselves with their own scanner, so it's important that the microchip is compatible with ISO standards or some very cautious people travel with their own (I didn't bother).
-Letter stating rabies vaccination was done. Also signed in blue ink and stamped.(my vet didnt have any 'official' rabies certificate but this seemed to be ok.)
-The original lab report for the rabies serum test
-International Health form (this will probably be different in your case)
Now I've got some concerns of coming into India with a dog and would love some advice also. Don't mean to hijack the thread but would love to ask Birds and Pennyless some more details.
-What exactly happens when I bring a small dog in-cabin with me? (I'm thinking LH to Delhi or Mumbai). As in, I get off the plane, then do I go somewhere else? Go through special customs?
-What bribing at the airport? Should I avoid Mumbai airport if possible? Anyone know what happens in Delhi?
-I'm intrigued about the Arkefly flights that Bird mentioned a few times. Where can I get more info on them? Mumbai airport sounds awful and I'd like to avoid it if possible.
-Bird- do you recommend any other routes/airlines/charters that will allow me to take the dog in-cabin? Her weight, including the bag is just about 8kg.
-at wits end as to how to get my dog to Kolkata (if we go there) since no European flights fly there any longer. Not sure she will manage a 12 hr train ride from Delhi without relieving herself. Any tips?

Where to stay in mumbai with my dog before departure?
Im thinking of going to mumbai 2-3 days prior departure.
Im looking since months where to stay...but its hotels which are way down south in mumbai which are petfriendly or others are so huge, shiny .... so that she would be for sure stressed since she never saw something like this.
or they are insanely expensive.
Does anybody have any advice where my husband and i could stay with my dog (she is a small medium size ;-) no barking, very well behaved (besides being so scared of driving in the car :-( im already looking forward to drive with her in austria...where you can stop wherever you like and there are no wild dogs or anything like that to be afraid of. here she only drove in a car to a vet or so...it was always a neg experience till now.
We have only one huge step ahead!!! MUMBAI, the paperwork :-( in mumbai and the airport.
Im so worried about that.
Please i would appreciate any advice.
Also private housing is ok. As long its somebody who understands the worries of a pet owner and the place is clean.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

you are better of going straight from the factory to mumbai airport, mumbai is not a place to spend a couple of days in.
It will be a stress-free two and a half hour highway drive from your company ,so you can go a few hours before departure for the paperwork.

Thks. Unfortunatley its not that simple , i would really wish so ;-) but the gov. Vet will not wait for me at te airport, which would be fantastic but unfortunatley its in another place where i have to get the documents stamped and signed..
Yesss :-) we are all very happy. Just arrived yesterday. So proud of her how she managed the whole journey and all those new things. I will defnetly write each and every detail about the procedure together within the next days and post it.... Gonna go now all together to the dogs supermarket with her,( my parents took days off just for her)...looking for new luna gear ;-)
