Just flew a dog out of Goa to Europe

Just to let you know our latest experiences with flying a dog from Goa to the Netherlands.

We used Arkefly, a charter that flies directly from Goa to Amsterdam during the tourist season.

The people from Arkefly were very helpful. With Arkefly your pet flies free if you book Comfort Class and keep the total weight (pet, cage and your luggage withjn the weight limit). And you have to inform them beforehand that you are taking a pet because only a limited number of pets are allowed on the flight.

Entering the airport required only the EU pet-passport and a ticket saying the dog was booked on the flight.

No other papers were asked for. This does not mean that they can not ask for more papers, I am only giving you my latest experiences. We did have all the required paperwork (the blood test for rabies, health certificate and the vetinary certificate for domestic dogs to enter to EU). In Goa Dr. Marilyn Esteibero organsised all the required paperswork and the chip.

On arrival in the Netherlands again only the EU pet-passport was asked for.

I hope this is helpful to somebody.

Hi birds,

Great info. i would have a question about the EU pet passport. Where did you get that from? Did you bring it from europe?
Or is it a paper/form i can print out and have it filled out by the dr here?
Would be great to have some explanation on that.
I have here just a 'normal pet passport' which i got from the dr. here. Would that work too??

I got the EU pet passport send from Europe. You can buy them from a vet or via Stichting AAI (www.stichtingaai.nl). They are a bit costly, depending where you get it between Euro 20 and 25. A normal pet paspport apparently is no good. If you Google EU pet passport in Images you get an idea.

Great to see that

We are moving back to Europe from Chennai with a cat and seems that our vet has no idea where and how to send the blood sample... can you guide me please...

As per the EC web site, blood test must be done 30 days before departure, is it correct? Do we have the result on time?

Thanks

I do not know how to deal with cats but I suggest you or your vet asks advice to Dr Marilyn Estibeiro in Goa as she has lots of experience with preparing animals for export. If you want to call her, her tel: 241 7827 and the clinic is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 08:30 until 12:30.

Let me know if you have success, otherwise I will ask some of my contacts.

Getting a dog from Goa to the UK

Has anyone used Qatar to get a dog from Goa to the UK. They do not appear to be on the DEFRA approved list but are a huge airline and fly direct?

Trying to get our little doggy home and need any suggestion that can help!!

Hi Birds

Just to add to your post, if traveling on from the Netherlands (eg UK) KLM will fly dogs (Zone 2) for 75 euros. You need to book 48hrs in advance and have the pet passport, but apart from that no problem. This makes getting a dog from India achievable and more affordable, especially when the carriage is part of luggage allowance on ARKEFLY

Hi,

I hope you are not planning to bring your dog from Canada to India just for a holiday?

Assuming you are not doing this but intend to take an Indian dog to Goa, the only place I know that sometimes accepts friendly dogs is The Banyan Soul in Anjuna (http://thebanyansoul.com) which is a great place. Sumit who runs the place has adopted a stray dog from the shelter via us :-).

Does Netherlands have any pet requirements for people taking dogs from India to another country via Amsterdam?
