Prof, your wife sure seems like a insect person! First spiders now scorpions. Am wondering - what next!

"aunt to be", even at the nicer hotels a spider can come along. even in very clean and hygienic accommodations.

You can run, but you can't hide from Indian arachnids (:-)

Oh Palerider - what am I going to do with you.... I didn't know there was such a thing as a tree huntsman - NOT COOL!

Do not know why I continue to torture myself by reading this thread!
Scanning the room .... look ... hope you are all very happy ....

I was in Delhi 2 days ago - very nice place - saw a guy waving something at me - thought it was a snake - only to find it was a wooden snake toy.
(after I'd damn near jumped out of my skin!)

I'm becoming neurotic! (I blame you all personally!!! )
Today is a day of completion.
I give thanks for this perfect day.
Miracle shall follow miracle and wonders shall never cease.

With due respects to all my bravery. I must say that I am afraid of spiders. My last encounter was with a large hairy fellow in a hotel room at Karnaprayag. It was happily choosing spots all around the room with invisible movements. Not willing to spend the night with such a probable bed mate, three of us formed a battle plan.We armed ourselves with an antiseptic spray from our first aid boxes and slippers.Adopting the style used for hunting tigers in old days in India we chased it with sprays and others from its position, towards one end of the room. The hunter waiting down there was able to finish it off with a few blows from the slipper.
Never thought I would end my trekking trip with a hunting expedition..

I wonder how large a can of RAID I can carry-on.... I truly cannot handle spiders... if I see one- I lose it!! Speaking of scorpions... several years ago I was in Honduras in a village in the mountains, in an outdoor toilet- specially built for our group- as I turned my head to focus my penlight, which was in my mouth, to see where I'd set the toilet paper- saw a scorpion ON the toilet paper!! I just took a stick, flicked it away, no problem... but if it had been any kind of spider- I'd still be at the bottom of a ravine with the pigs!!!

Not very big, I'm afraid. They usually don't allow aerosols or any liquids over 100ml.

However, I'm sure there's all sorts of lethal bug spray available in India.

Yeah, I was pretty much kidding about the RAID!! Although I'll probably buy something in India to spray the little- or big- devils with... I can't even get close enough to a spider to kill it... please, don't try to tell me how they deserve to live... I don't care- no belief in spider rights

How much RAID?

Now that 1.5 terrabyte discs are available in the 3.5inch format for PCs, I would say that you could may get a SAN unit, for instance, with a capacity of several terrabytes into your hand luggage.

You were talking about Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks, yes?

(which was the original definition: I think they've changed it now almost all disks are relatively inexpensive)

(any of the sprays sold for killing cockroaches are pretty effective at killing other insects too)

Don't worry, he was being clever not sarcastic. He did also give you some useful information about cockroach killer.

(It's okay Nick I laughed, well smiled anyway, and I think a nice solidly mounted RAID unit would be perfect for squishing "things with too many legs". Now all I have to do is erase the mental image of all those legs sticking out from under it)

Yes, aunt --- some of us just have weird senses of humour. Sorry about that!

I haven't heard of a bug-killer called raid --- but I did guess that there must be one.

In UK we have "Nippon" Ant killer. I always thought it rather strange to name an insecticide after a country . Not available in Chennai, though.

(Thanks for the laugh, Haylo! Unfortunately, however many times you overwrite the mental image, a small trace of it will always remain )

(where is the smiley for jealousy??? I am 'jealous' - I still have 29000 posts and more to go before i can expect to cacth up!! )

Totally unrelated to anything but I really want to turn this into a thread on women's safety (yes, another one!) purely so I can change the title to "Deflecting Giant Indians". Because I think it would be funny.

I don't think anybody gets my sense of humour either.

A spider once bumped into me on a bus. I'm never going back.
